i have always wanted to convert mine over to where it has the door setup like a late 60's model lincoln ... where the rear is suicide ... and the front normal ... and when both are open there is no post in the opening ...

but since mine is a daily driver .. eh oh well .. will have to save ideas like that for my vw bug

I did it on my 4 door Blazer (try to post a pic) its a lot of work, i used rear door hinges off of a 60s Suburban. I welded a steel brace vertically inside the back side of the door and bolted the hinge to the new frame. After you have the new hinge assembly done you unbolt the stock hingesand you have suicide doors. Then the fun part of building a latch and striker on the center post. Its a serious job and they make kits, but dont expect to do it in a weekend

just noticed door handles are shaved too. so where is the kit from, any ideas?

so shavin the handles and doin remote door poppers is probably just as much work as moving the handle to the other side of door?

many companies make a kit, its not specific for any vehicle. Auto Loc, Suicidedoors.com & many other places to name a few

Its more work to relocate the handles cause you have not only shave the old hand location, but you have to make a new hole too. & not to mention you have to make new rods so the doors will open. The rods im talking about are on the inside of the door that move when you pull the handles

the challenge with the neon is there is not much place to put the hinge assy ... you are pretty much limited to a single heavy duty hinge about where the door latch was ...

now that i like ... just mod it enough to get rid of most of that center post once it is open ... would mean ya gotta open the front door first .. then the back .. and move the latch assy for the back door down onto the door sill area...

think it would be possible to keep the saem door handle placement and rock the suicides?

Posted: Sat Apr 07, 2007 6:48 pm
by -Devil-
i don't see why not ... would just have to rig up a cable with some mounts instead of the rods....

not to mention the door having clearance away from the body so it doesn't smash into it when you open it

looking at the car again................there's something not right about the hinge. if i were to do it, it would open the same height as the front doors. im very very picky about that shit, & his door sags down & it just throws off the effect for me

^^^ I agree - what would that take, stronger hinges??? better kit?

Posted: Sun Apr 08, 2007 2:25 am
by LaidNeon
stronger better hinge kit. I'm looking into getting some made for mine that pulls the door away from the body when you open, that way i can open it just as far as the front door & at the same height
