Clay bar... Overrated?

Post by Wenuden » Sat Apr 21, 2007 5:44 pm

WOW... I just spent a total of 12 hours debadging, washing, clay baring, waxing, rewashing, and rewaxing my car....... Can anyone explain why the first wax took more tar off my fender/rear bumper cover than the clay bar and washing (x2)? And keep in mind, i said 12 hours, so don't just say i'm lazy....

Meguire's deep crystal car wash, clay bar, and gold wax..... micro-fiber cloths

Why would you wash your car after you waxed it?

First wax was done under a tree for shade and there was pollen/grass clippings (from my neighbor cutting his grass like an asshole) all over it. rewashed and waxed on the street, pollen gone.

The linked post is nice, i looked at it a few days ago, but that wasn't what i was going for. it's a neon, not a benz. i don't need to see my pores in my hood, i just want tar/rubber/bugs off my car. The clay bar didn't get very much out.

the clay bar is made for removing particles that can damage the paint ... like small small peices of sand and other gritty stuff ...

i have never heard of someone using a clay bar to remove tar and such ...

since i moved to louisiana i haven't bothered doing more to my car besides driving it into one of those u wash it places ... livin on a dirt road will do that to ya ...

It has a learning curve, yo uhave to spend a little time practicing with it. PLUS, you said you rewashed after you waxed.......that was your mistake, you must rewash right after clay barring as you have kinda spread around A LOT of contaminants with the clay bar.

Just take a good long read at the thread linked above, you will see what I mean.
