What is the point of the insert? Does it keep water out? Does it function / force air into the airbox in any way? How much is one worth? Are there any dangers of running with the SRT hood with no insert in the scoop?

As far as I know is you can open it up into your airbox for the "ram air" effect. But I do believe if you route it to your airbox then yes there is a chance that water might get in there.. I have also see a guy open it up into his engine bay too..

Any more information?

No. The scoop has an opening in it but the water goes out the back. Worst thing that could happen is you get water on you exhaust manifold but I know of 2 people that drive there daily with no problems. A scoop used is usually 40-50 and new is 90 i beleive

I guess... I have a srt hood on my neon without the insert for bout 2.5 years now.... No probs from it... Only bad thing is that it lets in dirt and dust all in the bay...

If you look at the underside of the hood, you'll see 2 channels running back w/ angled openings by the back of the hood. The scoop deflects the air into the channels and it 'supposedly' keeps the manifold/turbo cooler. There's a mod on SRTforums that someone did by removing the scoop and cutting a certain amount off the rear of the scoop for more air flow to the turbo/manifold. I may have to try it cause my hood gets hotter that $hit right above there!

No problems here too i had like for 1 year with no scoop, and just 2 add the hood scoop new is like $120 threw the dearlership or some mopar store.

To me it just looks better without the insert...

The angled portion of the scoop is to help deflect water incase of ingestion.As for a ram air effect, it was found to be useless on the SRT motor but it definately helps the N/A motor, mostly above 60mph.

The purpose of the scoop is to divert water to the rain channel in the front of the hood. If you cut the scoop at the seam where the scoop starts to deflect downward the air flow will increase.

I did the PVO hood mod to my SRT-D hood and closed off the turbo cooling outlets so that the air is totally diverted to the air box. It works because the air filter has a 3" dust circle where air goes through the filter. I also tested this by using a leaf blower as a portable wind tunnel.

If you use the SRT's airbox lid the inside has a 3" tube is already cast into the plastic so just cut it out. The box will have to be used with it since it matches the lids square intake inlet. I kept my stock one and cut it instead.

how'd y'all get the insert out? some fucktard pounded on my hood right at the top rolled edge of the scoop, seems like the dent is holding the insert in. i tried to take it out to try and pop the dent out, no luck. took off the 2 nuts under the hood, tried pulling towards me and up, no luck. tried to pry with a nylon locksmith wedge, no luck. help me out, i want that dent gone!!! might have to buy one of those retarded suction kits to try.

I knew I saw a pic like that somewhere! I don't think I'll do the ram air mod since it will be turbo some day. Where is this "rain channel" you mention though?

Well I don't know, maybe I should get one of those because after the first rain since I swapped hoods I noticed water spots all over EVERYTHING under the hood

That's too much money for a little piece of plastic like that though. Maybe I can custom fab one.

have you looked for a used one? price is relative to how much you value the time it's going to take to clean your engine bay for the remainder of the hood being on there.
