fixing a bumper

I won an srt-4 front bumper last night on ebay. I only paid $202 which is really good considering that these things are very hard to find now, and modern performance sells them for $450 primed.

Srt-4 bumper

There are a couple of cracks on it, and I was wondering what the best way to repair them would be. Should I do it myself or just have the shop do it when I get it painted?

the PROPER way to do this requires painting. so i'd say let a shop do it. but in case you're still wondering, here's a VERY SHORT way of looking at it

materials:
drill+small grinding bits+1/8"drill bit
plastic repair mesh
plastic repair material
FINE plastic repair material (both are a 2 part formula)
sand paper (80,180,240,320,400,600,800)
primer, paint, clear, and all the hardners and solvents

what you have to do is sand it down to the plastic and "V" the crack out and then drill 1/8" holes on either side of the crack. opposite of eachother. then use a plastic repair mesh and plastic repair material on the back side. putting masking tape on the front so it doesn't ooze all over. then once that's dry you flip it over and "V" out the front side and use just the plastic repair material. than sand it smooth, use a finer plastic repair material, sand that smooth, prime it, paint it, clear it.

Oh wow, any guess how much much the paint + repair will be for the bumper?

well, when i fixed my rear cover and did custom cutouts, bufore i had the lip kit, everything cost around $100 at cost (no labor). and i'm assuming that you need this painted flame red so it'll cost more than that... hmm... orlando... not quite sure what shops charge down there. they probably have things with VOCs to meet.

So I won the bumper yesterday and got it today :).

Well I'm going to add the srt rear bumper and side skirts to my collection too. I'm putting all of these on after the engine swap. I will probably just get the whole car painted with the bumpers and everything all at once.

I took the side moldings off a couple of years ago and I still see the faded paint, and I also have paint chips missing here and there.

What's the cost for the whole car being painted by a reputable shop with good clear being used? I don't want to cheap out on this but I don't want to get ripped at the same time.

I guess you just got a great deal then. Do you know how hard it is to find an srt front bumper now? They are $450 + shipping primed from modern, and much more at the dealership. Most crashes are front end, so it's hard to find a front bumper. I felt that $200 was decent, but I definitely didn't get ripped off.

dude i didnt mean to sound like an ass or come off braging, I would have just waited until I found one thats atleast the same color im looking for.

I know its hard to find a srt bumper thats in decent condition for really cheap. Its just that ive seen them sold on ebay for like $100 or even $150 not including shipping of cours so either way you still got a good deal for getting one.
