Air Dam?? Help!

Post by glasswars » Wed Feb 13, 2008 5:14 pm

Okay I guess this goes here.

For a while my air dam would always be falling of and scraping and what not. So I had it held up with zip ties into the bumper, lol. Last night/today it snowed and as I was leaving my driveway a chunk of snow/ice offically (and finally) ripped it off of my car. The wires and harness that run along it are fine, but the air dam came off in one piece.

My question is... do I actually need that damn thing? Or can I throw it out?

if your talking about that piece of plastic that goes from the bumper to the radiator support you can take it off if you want it is useless i took mine off and it didnt change the temp of the car its really there to help stop sticks and stuff

that piece is actually there to help cool down the car and prevent the bumper from ripping apart if it hits to low.

i have had it on and off and there is no diffrence in the temp so to me it was a waste of time and money and weight add to the car bumpers fine i even lower the car 2" on 15" stock rims you will be ok. i think they just tell ppl that stuff so they think it is important and will buy one if it brakes or what ever the case may be. if you want your car to run a little cool take the rubber piece of by the windsheild wippers to allow the heat to get out. but i would only do that in the summer.

My auto teacher a while back said I needed it on there, I told him I wanted to take it off, he advised me not too. This was on my 01 Neon. He explained to me why, but I forgot. :banghead:

been running without mine for 3 years in Florida, no problem what so ever....

it is supposed to improve air flow, and protect radiator from road debris.....(i guess).....

it is cheap at the dealer. i guess $40 brand new, ask BRR or danteneon .....

I just thought of a problem I've been having, don't know if this started it, but I'll get your guys' opinion.

For awhile, my car beens liking to turn on the radiator literally EVERY 2 minutes, stop for 1 or so than go repeat... Think this has anything to d o with it? I don't know what started this or how to fix it, might be the fuse?

Are you defrosting your front window?

that sounds like your AC kicking on and off, it does that when you defrost/ dehumidify your windshield...

if that is not the case, keep an eye on your temperature, maybe you have a radiator leak....

the air dam has nothing to do with your problem, guaranteed!!!

good luck, more info would be helpful ......

No A/C is turned on it, it likes to do this at idle all the time, just sitting there.
Fluid levels are fine, so I don't think it's that, and the temperature has been where it always has.

Someone said possibly a fault in the relay, telling it to stay on? I dunno :(

Hmmm...two things.

Just for a reference, the lower airdam is there to help direct air that would otherwise go under the car to go to the radiator instead. The difference is minimal though.

As far as the fan running like that...even though your A/C is off, if you have the defroster mode selected, the compressor cycles to help remove moisture from the air. The fans will cycle as well to keep the temps low.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

when sitting at an idle there is no wind going to the radiator so there for the fan kicks on more to keep the car cool

Defroster is off aswell.

The fan should be going on, but every 1:30 minutes seems a little excessive. I've compared it to my buddys 05 SXT and it doesn't kick on the fan nearly as much, rarely comes on at idle.

The air dam is 10% aero, 10% cooling, 10% engine protector, and 70% fascia stabilizer.
