Why did my neon come with a 1gn surboard spoiler?

So why did my neon come with a 1gn surfboard spoiler? I have always wondered. I used to hate it but now I like it quite a lot, I think it separates my neon from many others that have 2gn spoilers, not to mention it matches the 2gns body lines so well.
But why did DCx decide to use them on the 2gns in such a limited run?

Mutant! I would have expected it if it was on a 2000, but an 02, thats strange. Maybe it was from the previous owner?

Sorry mods. I wasnt exactly sure where to put it.
Anyway, all the evidence says that it was from factory. Before I got the car it was owned by a middle-aged woman.

That is really weird (not the looks of the spoiler but the fact that it is factory on an '02). Maybe the dealership where she purchased it had some sort of special trim package going? Anything else different on your car?

the dealer added it, prolly after the car had sat on the lot to long......

If you want to Jacob, PM me the last 9 digits of your VIN and I can tell you if the dealer added it or not.
More than likely, it was added. I have heard of other folks putting the surfboard on the 2nd gens.

I was considering that option, but the decklid that I found on ebay had the Hammerhead and carpet attached, so I'm happy.

that looks a lil wider than the 1gn pickle wing. and i've seen one or two other 2gn with that wing granted i believe they were 00' or01'

I just saw a girl driving a stripped white '03 style SE neon with a 1gn surfboard on it yesterday

I had one on my '02. The thing is, it's not a 1gn spoiler. I tried to sell it to a guy with a 1gn and the spoiler holes didn't line up right. So it is definitely a 2nd gen spoiler...I call it a factory freak

Exactly .... It
looks the same as a 1st gen spoiler, but the mounting studs are in a different location.
I think the "1st gen style" spoiler actually looks pretty good on a 2nd gen.
