going to be laying down some paint soon
and i have the 2004 dodge neon se silver but need to know the paint code and how much i should by to redo the paint with extra matallic it's going to have some depth to it unlike the stocl paint
There is a sticky that has all of the paint codes. But I believe you mean that you have Bright Silver Metallic, which is PS2.
Usually the difference in adding more metal flake into a paint job is meanial when compared to the overall cost of a profesional application. Are you going to be repainting the car, or having someone do it?

You do it with extra metallic you get the wrong color and it won't match your jams. You put too much metallic/flake in the paint and it will spray like absolute shit. Silvers have toners that are usually fine, medium, coarse, so unless you buy actual flake (tacky) it won't be a huge difference it will just be the wrong color. And light cars don't have "depth" dark cars do.
Honestly: pay someone to do it. If you don't even know what to buy or what your paint code is then you don't belong painting a car. For the car's sake....pay someone.

What does the statement in bold mean?? I'm confused. Proper grammar ftw.mattern248 wrote:ok so do you paint cars and when you strated didn't you knoiw jake snfdskj when you started it's called learning and thats why i am doing it and if i fuck up them i redo it untill i get it right????? thats the point of this damn site isn't it???? to learn about our neons andf what we can do to them and to talk about them not to try to put them down and tell them not to do something???
I didn't mean any offense. I'm the second person in this thread to tell you to have a professional do it. Its really not as easy as buying paint and spraying it, its way more involved than that. Proper chemicals and mix ratios with proper temperature ratings for where you are spraying it. A properly ventilated area, preferably a spray booth (downdraft) where you can run a bake cycle. A proper gun with different size tips for the primer and base/clear. Fan pattern, spray pattern, overlap, distance, speed...etc.
If you want to learn don't practice on your own car, practice on a scrap piece of metal thats all we're telling you.
Yes I paint, and yes I learned, but NO I didn't practice on my own car. Why not practice on some piece of metal that you don't care about, and when you get it perfect then you can play with your car. It only makes sense. And yes that is the point of this site for people to learn, but you are showing a serious lack of maturity when lashing out at people who are trying to help you. No one put you down, I stated the same facts I state to everyone when they ask what they need to paint for the first time. Ease down on the self-defense there was no need for it.

Actually if it doesn't turn out the first time you'll have wasted $500 (at least) in paint, primer, clear and materials assuming you have a gun, airhose, sandpaper, etc. So you have to spray it a second time and still need to spend almost the same amount of money on product all over again because it didn't come out right. But at least being at a body shop you have an advantage, people there have experience and can help you with it and possibly provide you with everything you might need free of charge.
Simple point: Don't practice painting on your car. That is all.

GO CAM GO!!!!
now here's my rant i don't know what the hell you guys are talking about because there is no puntuation but what do i know i'm just a 24 year old guy who loves neons and wants to be someones hero someday i just wish that i could learn from all of you on this site this site fuckin rocks and i love it and will never go anywhere else for neon info NOWHERE done with rant
BTW...on a serious note, I have had a lil experience in refinishing, and I totally agree with Crystal (LilSparkPlug). We, at Wyotech, always sprayed on test panels first before we started on a car. It's the smart thing to do, trust me. Go to a junk yard, take a front fender off a car, and practice...practice, practice, and practice some more! Practice makes perfect. We are all here to help you, nobody here is bashing you (and the paragraph above is all in good fun). Take the advice given to you, and you will get better results
Good luck with your car!
