Making paint stick to metal?

Ok so heres a weird one. My front fender, up in the tire well, was bent. Probably cuz my tire was rubbing (of course I raised the car some but anyhow) I went to bend it back using a flat wrench wrapped in a towel and pressed on it to bend it up. Its metal, not plastic. Sure enough right at the crease I pressed it hard enough to make the paint seperate.

Im actually 100% okay with how it looks at the moment as its not noticable since its really under the fender. HOWEVER, I feel that in time it will lift up and I will lose a piece of paint from the side of my fender. I can tell its 'loose'. With that said, can I do something to make it adhere to the metal better? Was thinking maybe my heatgun would help? I honestly am a newbie when it comes to paint.

Im going to call dodge for repainting the entire unit tomorrow but honestly if i can just ensure it doesnt get worse im okay leaving as it.

Thanks guys!!

You'd have to sand down the metal with an abrasive grit sandpaper. Follow that up with a self-etch primer, or epoxy primer meant to go over prepped metal as a substrate. Then spray base coat and clearcoat. Depending on the year of your car and how many alternates there are, if you have just the fender painted there is a chance it will not match the rest of the car.

That was the technical answer, and the right one of course.

The short answer is once that paint has separated from the metal, you can't re-adhere it.

Who cares. You can't see it, so you said. Leave it alone. When it tells then ask how to repair.

True, its not noticable unless looking upwards and like 12" from the car. But i dunno, i fear it will flake off in the next month. Ill be loking for an e-blue fender in the meantime. Or I could repaint it thru dodge but I dunno...... lol

Just have a shop paint that one part of the fender and blend it in. This way nearly all the paint on the fender will be original and match up with the hood and bumper. Being that low on the fender makes a bit less noticeable.
