How do I paint my mopar body kit?

Yay- so I'm about to purchase a mopar body kit finally, but the only one I could find is blaze red. I'm planning on buying it and having it sent to my uncle, but he needs to know what type of paint to use for it. Any ideas? I know we'll have to sand it down, but any clue what kind of paint I'll need to buy? Thanks! :)

That's a loaded question. Is your uncle a painter? I assume not because he wouldn't ask you that question. Unless he meant paint code.

As to what type of paint...

You need all the items to do a base coat/clear coat. That means hardener, reducer, base, and clear. Depending on the temperature and humidity he will have to choose the temp range of the reducer for best results. Also, is he running HVLP? That may change some of the choices.

As far as quality level and brand, there is a lot to choose from out there. I used to sell S-W and Dupont. The S-W 4th dimension line was good for most jobs, but the Dupont was chosen by the guys who wanted a more "show car" finish. But almost any brand can be made to look good with the right equipment and skill.

If he has no experience painting why are you sending it to him?

Drop it off at a Body Paint store and pay anywhere between $100-200 bucks

I think I paid $50 for my sideskirts to be painted, but I bought the paint $30?

Fuck dude that's a bit much... I hope they did a really good job and put enough coats on that it'll withstand rocks and scraping and shit, unlike the factory finish.

so ur saying that you paid $600 to get a lip kit painted.

i can get an entire car painted for $800.

just saying a lip kit isnt that big and painting isnt that hard you can do it ur self if u wanted too.

it's PB5... i perfer PPG paints. the paint itself doesn't matter. just be sure to add the flex additive to the clear. and NO you DO NOT need to do a bit of sanding. a simple scuffing of the clear is just fine. and i'm not tryin to slam your uncle, but just cause he's a mechanic (i'm a mechanic AND auto body tech) doesn't mean he knows how to paint. there's knowing how to point a gun in a general direction and pull the trigger and actually painting. such as with proper technique.

Coming from a paint pro myself. ^^ = correct. If he doesn't know how to spray on plastic then take it to a shop. Or go to your local jobber and see what they sell. PPG makes a good line. SU4901, 4902, and the adhesion promoter 4903. Tis the line i use and has worked great for me. Dupont has their own but imo isn't as good.

:withstupid: While he could have found a better price, he knows the kind of work the shop does and trusted them do a great job.

And the paint job is very good.
