would running HIDS in the raccoon style headlights work? or would they just look all glared and blurry?
also anyone have any idea how to run a little led inside them so they glow constantly? and if a 5mm bulb would drain a battery

The rule of thumb is if you use HIDs in OE headlamp housings, they will have quite a bit of glare and the light output will not be focused correctly.
You can put a LED in the headlamp to give it an aurora glow. I did this with my original headlamps. The way to do it is a little hard to explain. Under the headlamp towards the front of the lamp is a place where you can drill a small hole and install a LED with a built-in grommet (you can find these at Advanced auto parts, Pep Boys, etc.). The LED will not be seen from the outside since it will sit under the shelf of the housing, but the light will be reflected back towards the rear part of the lamp.
I used 1 LED per side, but next time I plan on using two per side to make it brighter. The hardest part is keeping the plastic shavings out of the headlamp

If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...
