Yea, what frequencies do you commonly listen to like the 80s or 90s or what you know.

I've got the MPX shorty...works great around town. Reception can get kinda fuzzy around tall buildings and such...but nothing to cry about. So it's not crystal clear - that's what CDs and MP3s are for.

98.5 about 99% of the time, one station in the low 90s sometimes, and then 100.5 up to 107.9. Where I live, there's really only two spots I don't get reception with it. In the parking garage at the casino (which is down in between two mountains a bit) and part of the way down Hwy 88 when it is tucked right in beside the "wrong side" of the mountain. Other than those two spots, I don't recall losing reception anywhere else I go or have gone with it.

detergent- yea i do have cds and ipods to listen to. however i get bored of them from time to time. also i have an aftermarket stereo which im not sure if that is part of the cause to the crappy reception as well or if its just where i live.

darthroush- thanks for the frequencies they are similar to what i listen to here in ohio so that was a big help thanks.

the shorty with aftermarket radio

I bought a shorty and with my aftermarket radio it sucked major ass. I cut down my stocker and it works perfectly almost all the time. The only time I have troubles is when I listen to some AM stations.

FM is fine though. I listen to stations all the way up the dial, from 92.7 to 105.9 without any more issues than what I had with a full length one.

so i just got my stock cut down and went to replace the shorty antenna with the half stock.

and this wonderful thing happened.

Replace the receiver part (junkyard!!!!) or perhaps try to either drill it out, or use an EZout if you have one?

by racer12306
How in the hell did you do that?

no EZout and i instantly thought junk yard when it happened. i think i might get a new to me receiver and then try to tap out the one im replacing. the metal that is in the receiver is aluminium so it might be easy to get out.

racer- i was trying to twist the shorty off and it wouldn't budge so i grabbed some vice grips and tried with those and the aluminium sheared right off.

Could be, but I imagine getting one from a JY will only run 5 or 10 bucks maximum. I'll assume you need a new antenna too...

no i have my stock one that i shortened and its all good just cant put it in the receiver because i tried to do that and i failed!

Soooo... what's in the receiver then? Looks like the base of your antenna?

Posted: Wed Oct 20, 2010 1:27 pm
by orangeneon05
yea the base of the shorty antenna. the aluminium ones that are from MP

Ahhh, I somehow didn't catch that you had a shorty on there already.

yea its ok. i just feel dumb because i broke it off and what would have been a normal easy fix now is more difficult.

How did you break it?

Ahhh, didn't see the edited post, haha.

Are you sure you were twisting the right way?

is left the correct way.....?

Seems to be... but mine had little resistance with a pair of pliers on it, and I surely didn't have enough force to shear it... Hmmm.

maybe it was too cold or it had cross threaded somehow the last time i put it in.

Possibly.

Clockwise - tighten

counter clockwise - loosen.

by orangeneon05
yea so i was loosening it and i guess it got stuck and then sheared.

well here is the start of me shortening the antennae. everything went well at first then thing came right off the car no issues and then was able to cut it with a pair of bolt cutter sand also grind it down to fit the ball. then when i went to pull the ball off thats when everything about this came crashing down. the ball from the original length is not coming off. i have tried many different ways and still nothing. ill be heading to the junkyard Friday to find another antennae and will be trying again to get the ball with that one.

Yea I took a cloth and vice grips around the ball and then the same but on the shaft of the antenna and twisted and it came free

i just took my antenna completely off and put in an ipod jack.
there's no need for a radio because the only good station i
actually get plays justin beaver all day... all the other channels
were either talk shows, church related stuff, or just in spanish..
mine twisted right off with the force of my finger tips. i was
honestly quite surprised at how easily it came off.

"righty tighty
lefty loosey! "

probably the only thing i can remember from my one week
experience in boy scouts. i soon realized that i was surrounded
by a bunch of tree hugging gospel singers so i bailed as soon as
i could..
