Arro wrote: Lip kits look nice. Do they make you look "custom"? No, I don't think so. A lot of cars are offered from the factory with optional OEM lips/sideskirts, so to me the Mopar lip just looks like a factory option.... sorta like Toyota's S-trim ground f/x on Corollas and Camrys.

If you want something "custom" looking, you should be thinking full bodykit -- new front and rear fascias, unusual side skirts, maybe some kind of spoiler, or even some molded-in fender flares for a custom wide-body look.

Why would he need to swap if he went with the SRT-D bumper? SRT-D is a HO 2.0, not an SRT-4 engine. As long as he makes them aware of that, and sets it up with the Magnum parts, he'd be correct to form.
Was it mentioned anywhere that everyone with a lip kit wanted something 'custom'? I think people do it because it's tried, and true and looks good. It's subtle. Of course it looks like a factory add-on... because it is. If gaudy wings and fiberglass body kits that look like some sort of space shuttle are 'custom' then I never want to ow anything 'custom'. I don't mean to be a dick, I just don't think that being a ricer makes your ride 'custom'. Also if anyone is planning on a rebuttal about my car being rice, you can only try to belittle me by saying that the cudas are rice (that would be the first time I've heard that...) as I no longer have the Mopar 3D tail lights.

wow.... atleast you realize you lie... anyways. youre off to an awesome start car wise. your car is clean, good paint. and it looks relativly low mileage. if i were you i would look for a lowering kit. this will set your car apart from many other stock neons on the road. and get you reconized for modding your car fairly quickly (as long as thats what your still after). then i would look into some of the stuff youve mentioned in previous post's. id also look through as many pictures of members neons as i can! there are alot of clean cars on here. and remember you dont always need a bodykit... (personally i love cars without em)

It was mentioned by the OP that he's looking for a show-quality result, in which case a lip kit isn't the best route for that IMO because of what you yourself said -- it's subtle.

I'm not sure why you think that anyone here associates "custom" with "ricer". Ricer is usually tacky. I've seen some 2GN's on here that are full-show, with custom bodykits or custom bodywork, but they certainly aren't "rice". And then I've seen some "ricey" cars on here, too.... usually with a lot less spent, some with lip kits.

... I didn't really mean to start an upheaval on the lipkit, I was just being sarcastic when I said "every non-turbo Neon here has a lipkit". I usually tack "ricer" onto import cars, the ones with gynormous wings, muffler "fart can" tips, body kits still in primer, etc. There are some nice imports, but then again there are some "ricers".

And I love rice. The food. Curious, where did the term "ricer" come from? lol.

I know I'm late but...

DAMN! YOU GOT PWND BY A GIRL! :owned:

Ok, now that I got that out of my system. Make your car your own. Do like everyone is saying and do your research. I'm dying to do a MTX or SRT swap (I want the SRT swap more, but the MTX might be cheaper for now). Personally, I want the power and the handling with minimal looks, just a few things here and there (Under glow, lipkit, sides things like that). Just save your pennies and do your research. That's what I'm doing with my suspension and brake project.

Yeah, but you got the cable stuff, I think. I'm looking for the hydraulic from an 01+. I will PM anyway.

I would say go for the SRT-D look. I don't know about everyone else but I've only ever seen ONE up here (that's not saying much since Vermont is teh sux) and if you are going for an 'original' look an SRT-D body would make it stick out without looking weird.

Um, except that *she* was late to the thread, and near as I can tell, it was other people who gave the beat-down, not her. She just made some comments/suggestions. Maybe you wanted her to be the flamethrower...?

Yeah you're better off sticking with hydro. Hacking/welding the firewall sounds like a nightmare. I've driven a hydro 2GN, it wasn't bad at all. Certainly leaps and bounds better than ATX.

I don't think I have to do anything to the firewall if I use cable or hydro. I could be wrong though.

Hmm yeah I just re-thought about it.... I think that going from a cable car to hydro you have to hack up the firewall, but from hydro back down to cable.... probably wouldn't matter.

Yeah, the 2000 is the only second gen that had cable. 2001 and up are hydro.

Isnt it really mopar tradition, (I live in WI, thers A-LOT of mopar guys out here. so i kinda caught on with everyone else.) to have upgrades that are factory? thats the beauty of dodge/mopar performance, ya our cars look the same, but at the same time, its what gives US and our cars the character we have, our parts come from the company our cars came from, and we know they are good parts not some cheap ass aftermarket crap make in china. (they probably are still made in china) but u know what i mean.

ricer term came from all of the honda's and IMO the asian drivers that all came into the cult following of the fast and the furius "I own a civic, therfor I own a racecar" So japanese/chinese cars=rice because theres rice from those countrys. but its been used for terms like tacky, to much, ect ect.

also the pipes Idea is kickin!

No, the 2000 and the early 2001 had cable clutch systems. Mid-year '01 they came hydraulic.

sxtman17 wrote:yeah i was thinking the bronze color with black accents cuz if you keep the car clean then i think itll look real nice and unique since no one else will have it lol

and im just thinking this right now but im actually doubting the whole srt hood and bumpers...maybe i should just get a whole custom hood with custom bumpers? but like i said before im relatively new so how would a browse different style hoods? would certain shops have it? or do i have to do it online?
www.octanemotorsports.com has a large variety of hoods for neons. Now remember, if the hood is made for an SRT-4 you will have an awkward gap between the bottom of the hood and the front bumper. If the hood is made for a neon however, you will be fine. If you plan on switching to SRT bumpers shop for an SRT hood and if you plan on a bodykit made for 03-05 neons....then stick with a neon hood.

There are companies that make custom three stage paints in some of the most amazing copper and gold colors I've ever seen. Never seen a neon in a color like that but if it were two tone with the copper on the bottom and the black on the top it would look badass.
