I knew there was water in my spare tire well so I got in the trunk and there was water gushing in from around my passenger tail light. There was also water in the bottom of my driver side tail light. I got some silicon caulk and I'm going to apply it to the gaskets since they look fairly new.

Should I just put the caulk on the gaskets, or multiple other places, and will the tails be a bitch to remove once the caulk dries?

I would apply the caulk along and inside the gasket. Hell, you can put it all over the damned light if you feel like it. I didn't use caulk but I'm guessing it will make the tails slightly harder to pull out. But do you actually pull your tails that often?

Go to the how to section and look for my how to on doing this. It's very straight forward, and there should be a full set of pics too.

And yes, removing the tails will be a PITA because you are effectively gluing them on.

true, I don't pull the tails often...

I was a little worried when the water that was gushing in was coming in all over the electrical connectors for the brake light...

I'm not sure where the water is designed to flow when it rains, but it appears that there is space between the tail lamps, and rear bumper so that the water will flow outside the tails and straight down between the trunk and the rear bumper cover. If I "overcaulk" and go nuts around the tails would that stop the water from flowing down and cause moister buildup?

Just replace the gaskets they're like $5 and they'll fix the problem.

Thanks for everyone's input, I've already finished. We'll see how well it holds the first time it rains...

Replace them they are cheap and your going to do nothing but make a mess trying to chase a water leak.

i had leaks and got new gaskets. problem solved instantly and easily.

And then when the new gaskets leak, go by another set of new gaskets.

Seal it and forget it.

i have the same problem. passenger tail too lol.

they seem to last for around 4-6 years and the ones i had that leaked came used with a different set of tails i bought. when i changed back to the stocks i decided to spend the few dollars for proper gaskets. i won't own the car 4-6 years from now so i am set for life.

Did mine about 3 months ago and no problems.

i had the sam problem and it sucks but am good now

Update: It rained very hard last night. This morning I opened my trunk, peeled the trunk carpet back and there was a slight bit of water under the carpet and pads on both sides, but no water in the spare tire well.
