I'll be down on one..
I'm not gonna get off topic bout the "jdm" coolness of it or what not.. I think they come in handy... I do plan on get one for the front just in case something does happen one day and yea cuz I actually like how they look...
And I never call the tow guys out when I'm on the side of the road.. Some are assholes and don't care bout your ride, only the pay off... Last time I had them come out, they completely ripped my Kaminari front and rear bumper clean off the car due to taking there time and not caring.. Now I just hit up boys that have trucks and trailer to come get me.. The tow hook will come in handy with a wench, but like everyone else says, I won't it to hold up not tear nothing up..
Also, some cars already come with front/rear factory tow hooks.

The "frame" rails by the muffler have 2 m14 threaded holes per side they are used for the Mopar hitch and are plenty meaty to use for a tow bracket

Yeah I can take some if I have time.
What do we want? A hook to come out from under the bumper(no cutting of the bumper) however installation of this might require removal of the radiator and drilling a couple holes in the core support(I think with backing plates it should work) or for the hook to come through the bumper rice style that would be able to be run to the crash bar mounts but like I said you will have to cut your bumpers.

Usually the wenches have us in tow.

I'm gonna make one for my race car when I get to building it. But it is a drag only car. If it breaks I want it off the track quick. I know if pissed me off when people took for ever to get off the track or won't move out of the grove when they are puking oil on the track.

This thread is funny... I haven't had my front bumper cover off yet, but I've been wondering what is solid enough up front to mount things to. I don't want tow hooks, but I do want a sort of pushbar. Lots of deer and other critters around for my commute. Just something to fab up and keep tight to the body lines. Something I could mount lights to if I wanted. Not a big General Lee thing...

by what you said, it makes me think you want your car to be rally style.

Would the crash bar be solid enough?
Honestly mine will probably be an eye bolts, and it wouldn't concern me if I had to cut a hole in the cover. But i'm sure that is an issue for most.

I wouldn't mind cutting a hole in the bumper cover if the hook was functional and color matched to the cover...

I wouldn't mind if it did sit a tad higher... (my knees are going and its a long way to stand up from...) But I have my Jeep for offroad bombing. I have a 50 mile each way commute and in the winter its dark out in the desert and through the mountain pass. Since I carpool, I only have to drive once a week normally.
I don't expect it to be solid enough to completely protect the car, just keep critters out of the radiator more than anything. So HOPEFULLY, I can limp it home if I do hit something. And since I've abandoned my idea of cutting the bumper cover for some 6" lights, I could mount them on the bar instead (130 watts ought to light up the road...)... Getting my Depo projectors in the mail hopefuly today, and planning the vvme.com HID for the low beam... But still want to light up the road.

Ok this is my last post in this thread, my car is low and guess what I do in case I have to get towed? I carry tools in my car, while I wait for the tow truck I take the bumper cover off. Nuff said, what's next? are people going to do that dumb ass Honda speed holes mod where the cut circles in the rear bumper?

next?
That was 10 years ago.
I like what VW did. In the spare tire kit they give you a tow hook. You pop a little cover off of the front or rear bumper cover and screw it in.
I agree with what you say about street cars, but race cars are different.

lol, i really dont think people do that anymore.
i havent seen a car with "speed" holes in my entire life.
tow hooks arent BAD ideas. because they CAN be useful. just because its a "honda" thing, means it cant be used on neons?
thats not fair...

If I find info that proves "speedholes" actually work and are beneficial (even if it is a minor gain) then guess what imma do.

Perfect way to make your car 100 times easier for a thief to tow your car onto their truck then bring it to a shop to strip

Damn right. But the bolt style tow hook would remedy to this situation IMO.
