Will a Caliber Gas door fit on a neon???

Got a question on outside appearance modifications. Questions about body kits, exterior lighting, just anything thats a visual mod on the "exterior" of the car. Ask those questions here.

Will a Caliber Gas door fit on a neon???

Post by z3roneo » Thu Aug 20, 2009 7:12 pm

I was at the dealer today and noticed the polished caliber gas door next a poloshed pt gas door... I know for a fact that the pt door will fit our neon cuz some peeps here did it...

I was wondering if the caliber gas door fits the neons as well... It looks identical in size but I could be way off...

Here's a pic of the door I'm referring to..
Image

And a pic from modern how it looks on the inside..
Image

Not too crazy bout the chrome/polish look ,I'll just repaint it...

Parts and Service guys chime in on this... Meanwhile, I'm gonna see if I can find a wrecked caliber in the j-yard and buy/compare there gas door to the neons..

Maybe call modern and ask if they will measure/compare both for you? Might be the easiest/quickest way to check...

I can check both the Neon and the Caliber tonight for ya. The main issues would be the diameter and the mounting style,
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

Does it matter that it's on the driver side, and not the passenger side? I suppose you could turn it over, if it's a symmetrical design...?

Yeah you'd just have to flip it around, it does look very similar though

Does it require an interior release, or does it just look that way?

OK, since Dante is a slackin'...

I looked at my mom's Caliber SXT. It doesn't have a fancy fuel door. From what I can see it is the exact same door as the neon's, except held in position and slid up and over the roof, then down the driver's side. The diameter was the same, mounting holes, etc. If you even look at the filler pipe surround it is a mirror image to the neon's. Mom's doesn't have a latch either. Just the finger tab.

Now that I have looked, I now realize there are supposed to be rubber bumpers. Mine have never been there since I owned it.

Ok, kids since I just so happen to have a neon and a caliber in my drive way, w a stock gas cap, I took it upon myself.

On the outside they are exactly the same, don't mind the color lol.

The rear of the door is slightly different but the mount is the exact same, so it should mount in place of the neon or vice versa.

Here are some pics.

If I get really bored, I'll take the chrome one off the caliber and put it on mine to show how bad it would look.

Thanxs for the info guys. The caliber ss door will definitely be my next mod. I don't like the ss look but I do like the design of door. So once I get it, you better believe it'll get paint matched.

Damn, you all beat me to it.

I was going to mount my wife's fuel door to my Neon just to make sure they were completable. But that's why this site rocks

*Edit*I would do it now, but I'm waaaaay too drunk :tardbang:
