Water in headlight

Post by DuhNeon179 » Tue Sep 01, 2009 11:56 am

I've notice that my right headlight (if your looking at the car) always tends to fog up when it rains or wash it. Just about a month ago or two I took out the headlight to see where it was, and it was a small crack that the water somehow was able to get in through, so it sat there idol in the headlight for some time. (must of been the rain we got everyday back in June) but I sealed the crack up and I sorta blocked it off. And now as I washing the car I noticed it to fog back up again. So I took it back out and the crack was sealed I even put a little bit of water in it to see so. But I can't think of what else it could be. Does anyone know what it could be that's causing the headlight to fog up it sorta but not really cuts down my vision at night, and the fact that it bothers me :cussing: :banghead:. What should I do with it though?

Drill a small hole in the bottom of the housing to let it ventilate.

i had the same problem with one of my brand new depot black headlights, one morning i noticed that it was wet and foggy so i went to the parts store and bought some like silicone or whatever it was dont really remember, but it was for glass, sealrs around the edges for like windows and stuff, thus since then theres been no fog because there were a few holes in the sealer allowing moister to get in, so im pretty sure u want them sealed not a hole in the bottom, but thats just what worked for me, good luck

He can seal and re-seal all he wants, if it's an OEM headlight it's NOT going to help. The TSB for this from the dealership is to drill a small hole in the bottom to let the condensation escape. From the factory you have a hole on the back of your headlights with a "U" shaped rubber tube. This is your ventilation. Take a good look at it...it sucks. It hardly ventilates at all.

Drilling a small hole will help, ask any person who retrofits headlights.

Sheesh. You tell him! I'm gonna go drill TWO holes [per headlight]... "drill two holes"... oh dear

That's because it's aftermarket. OEM won't take as well of a liking to that.
