paint that is  after mother nature and every jackass that comes near my car its time for a respray. every panel on the car needs some work, thankfully there are very few dents, three on my rear quarter from a shopping cart, all very small and one on my passenger quarter so there will not be much body work, but i am ordering the last few parts by the end of the month to finish my 02 swap, and sourcing a srt rear as we speak, anyways here is my plan for the spring summer

1, 02 front, mugen lip, raccoon headlamps( will be done by march)
2. fix all dents and replace rear with srt bumper. mold and shave trunk and third break light (done by April/may)
3.respray, by yours truly, i have a buddy who's dad owns a shop with a down draft booth and will let me use it on the weekends. so score!!
4. the color....well after two years of debate i have settled on a dark satin purple. i will be doing jambs, interior and trunk, underside of hood, and radiator supports but not the engine bay, i have a plan to use the orange in the bay as a accent of sorts, due to the latest west coast thing of contrasting bays i have some cool ideas, i am a slave to trendz yo! edit here is a pic of the color
Image
5, my reason for going with a satin finish is simple, i love the look. no other reason at all, i will be using PPG products with flatten er added to the clear to my desired sheen.

and this will be the last year i will be doing any appearance upgrades to the car, next year i will be buying a 2.4 and going N/A with it. i want a car that will hold its own but not crazy fast or powerful. i hope that within the next few weeks to have another daily, and then i can start ripping into the peon. anyways that's the plan, any comments or questions are welcome

Why not just use PPG's DCU 2060 to avoid milking?

^^^ i was considering that clear, have you tried it?? i have never sprayed a satin finish over such a large area so i am a little apprehensive about my choices and the fact i can't buff, and milking was something i thought about but figured i would try a quart of each and see what i like best. but if you have used it please share your experience  this is going to be a major learning experience, i can't wait, whats the worst that can happen

Aren't u tricky. thought this was gunna be another " i jot tired of the neon and i sold it" thread. Your plans seem solid and its definitely a big help that you have access to a booth.

It's the clear that's over my black. It NEEDS to be sprayed wet, and you can only spray two coats. Any more than that and it WILL crack on you. It's not the easiest to spray I will be honest, but if you have something shitty to practice with I would give it a shot. It held up great for me :) I have nothing but praise for it. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone that hasn't painted before...but I know you have :D

It's gloss level is 0-5% so it's FLAT....you can mix it with other clears but milking can be prevalent. It's best if it's mixed 6:1:0.5 like it recommends. It's only available in quarts and can be pricey, but if you know that's what you want....I would do it. I always use DCX 61 with it and DT 885, that's the best combo I've found.

I like the flat idea, but purple wouldn't be my first choice. Flat olive drab FTW! Sorry to see the OB paint go, but I feel you.

I approve of these plans! Can't wait!

So you're getting a front lip just like the one I'm rocking? Awesome! Now I won't be the only one on 2gn rocking it.

yeah i wanted the integra lip but i think the mugen lip with the satin paint will make for a more agressive front end, plus i keep drifting back to pictures of your car and liking it more and more. still have plans to cover it with carbon fiber but we shall see.

and thanks for the info crystal, like i have said this will be my first time working with satin, and my first full respray so hopefully i don't fuck it up, painted a ton of parts and bumpers for practice so at least i am not fully a noob, :D

No you're definitely not a noob when it comes to painting but like I said it's finnicky. It offers amazing UV protection and no milking however so it's superior to the other method you wanted to try. Just spray a couple of practice panels, keep in mind to spray it wet. It flows out beautifully to make the surface super smooth. You'll know just by looking at it after it's flashed, if you sprayed it wrong. It just won't look "right". It splotches.

^^^ its going to happen man, i am just waiting for taxes to finish ordering a few things, and get the paint from my local jobber. should have all the parts by mid march and paint by the end of this month. yeah i wish we lived closer too, i don't have many people around my neck of the woods with nice cars, and the ones that are are cookie cutter hondas, nothing special.

crystal i will go get some of that and spray my spare hood and see how i like it, i get what you are saying about it looking "right" and thanks for the tips on shooting it
