Got a question on outside appearance modifications. Questions about body kits, exterior lighting, just anything thats a visual mod on the "exterior" of the car. Ask those questions here.

painting my windshield wiper brackets and trimming?

Post by Forest Green 2k » Thu Apr 08, 2010 1:55 pm

The paint has been chipping off my wiper brackets and it's bare metal on my driver side, what kind of paint would you recommend for that?

Also, say I wanted to repaint the outter black plastic peices on my car, what should I use on that? like the window trim, splash gaurd, mirrors, etc. Over the years of sun and me accidently getting wax on them they are starting to fade.

Thanks!

The corrosion on the wiper arms seems to be pretty common on neons. Just repainting over it will do nothing since it will return in no time at all. I was looking at mine and its all pitted and crap...

I would get the arms sand blasted, then I would give them some build primer then shoot them with with some flat back rattle can paint.

The trim is very easy to paint, the only porblems are removing them.

I know sem and duplicolor make black trim paint.

It will come out looking alright but nothing is like new trim..

Innovative technology pioneered by Meguiar’s® to instantly restore color and richness to faded and discolored trim and molding. Trims are protected so well that the “like new” appearance lasts for weeks, not days. Trim Detailer™ also helps remove unwanted contaminants and wax residue. Apply Trim Detailer with our High-Tech Applicator Pad for best results.
This is a new version of a product I love. The previous product worked like magic and lasted quite a long time...unlike Back to Black. Know that even this has to be re-applied...there is no permament fix short of new parts.
If I could just figure out how to meld the Outback and the Neon into one car...

The wiper arms...

Removed the worst corrosion off mine 2 years ago and painted the spots with flat black.

2 years later they are still good except for a small penny sized spot I need to touch up.

I repainted min e with flat black trim paint. It looked/worked great, until my car was stuck under a pine tree for 2 weeks. Scrapping the sap off killed paint.

Have you tried deep-cleaning the trim to see what is buried underneath all of that wax? My trim wouldn't hold any dressing for any amount of time. I just cleaned the hell out of all that plastic and it is still looking superb thus far.

If you really want to paint them, Krylon Fusion plus a clear seems to be very popular. You could also use trim paint too.
