i have a 2004 sxt. why wont 2002 tail lights fit? i dont see a diffrence

the 00-02 tails are a bit larger and wont fit with the 03+ bumper, you would need to use a 00-02 bumper to use 00-02 tails.

damn. im looking for new tail lights. i did have the altazza led chrome tail lights but the one side is all messed up it wont stay lit when im braking.

so im trying to find a REALLY nice set of aftermarket taillights that look kick ass.

any ideas?

yeah thats what i meant, if you swap the 00-02 bumper and tailights it will be a direct fit

theres also been 1 person here on 2gn who cut up the rear bumper to make the 02 tails fit. looked so OEM too.

All 03-05 taillights, whether they are on an SE, SXT, R/T, SRT, etc., will fit any 03-05 bumper. Same goes for the 00-02 taillights: all 00-02 taillights will fit all 00-02 bumpers, not matter which model the Neon is.

To sum that up one more time: 03-05 taillights will only direct-fit 03-05 bumpers. 00-02 taillights will only direct-fit 00-02 bumpers.

If you have the depo LED 03+ tails that arent working, an option is contacting LilSparkPlug and sending her them to be repaired and possibly colormatched or painted, it would be a nice custom touch for probably less than the price of new tails

right. and I had actually thought of doing that but if I'm not mistaken the taillight bucket itself goes all the way down too so if you were to trim the lense, the housing would be open. My only solution I came up with was modify 2gn housings internally and custom paint a set of oem style clear tail light lenses (like dante's) and cut them to fit. It'd be a lot of "what ifs" for something that I'm not 100% sure would work how I imagine it would.

perhaps the bumper was trimmed to let the tail light go behind it.

Looks like an '02 and '03+ bumper were grafted together.

Looks like the area around the tails from an '02 bumper were cut and welded into an '03 bumper... Something around that area just doesn't look the same as mine...
