Problems with Red cars ... white bubbles developing in clear
Problems with Red cars ... white bubbles developing in clear
I am posting this to try and get more people that are having problems with their flame red paint. I have around 30 other members so far that have responded saying they too are getting little white bubbles showing up in different spots on their cars. The most common areas are in front of the sunroof, under the black strip that separates the window and door, and on the hood.
Out of everyone that I have rallied with the same problem... most (almost all) are all 05 Flame Red SRT-4's. I am posting this to see if this problem is isolated to these cars, or other years and non srt owners are having the same problem.
If you are having this problem, I urge you to check out this page to see if we can get this problem resolved.

That sucks. I'm glad you are trying to get information on this...however it will take hundreds (probably at least 500) of documented complaints for for Chrysler to issue any kind of recall or take action.
And the thing about paint is: it's very very hard to prove in court whether the paint was original. 85% of the cars on the road today have paintwork of some kind. Paint issues are probably the hardest thing to get resolved by a factory recall.

The problem is prolly more in the clear, or how the clear is reacting to the red base coat. This is really bad with repainted areas. My dad's Dakota had the clear peel off with in a year and a half after being repaired. (It is also red.) The factory clear also has bubbled/peeled, but not to the extent of the rework.
The DCX approved vendor re work on my XJ is also bubbling/peeling. It is Deep Amethyst PC. It only got rework due to warrantied rust through. Not from paint issues. The later repaint I had done is still holding up as far as bubbling. (Different shop)
This problem is not specific to Blaze Red, but might just be more prevalent on neons. I have seen it happen all most of the colors/different models.
It has not made me a huge fan of base coat/clear coat. I'll take a little oxidation of the old school paint over the newer paint any day. But EPA has pretty much nixed that notion. Manufacturers are stuck with EPA guidelines like the rest of us. You can bitch all you want, but it won't bring back the good paint, fuel, or oil.

Interesting My flame red '00 had this and I just wrote it off as the car being old... I didn't really notice it on my SRT. I wonder if I should file a complaint about it anyway

But then he said some 04s too and those were the only years for red on an SRT, however neons had it back to '00 and my '00 indeed had this problem too. The clear was all fucked up.heydockyle wrote:I think he's getting at the op saying that all seem to be red 05 srt's having this problem.

Seems to be mostly happening on the 05's however there are a few identified 04's and 03's as well. On another forum I have heard of some 00 SXT's with it too.
Yeah 6 year old car is pushing it to get a paint job, but getting some sort of resolution and getting them to admit some sort of guilt for their Flame Red paint jobs on Neons in general is the goal.
Would you buy a new car if the dealer told you "by the way this car will need to be repainted in 5 years" hellz no. It's really just the point that there is a flaw and a resolution would be great.
I seem to be very lucky with my local dealer. The service manager is all for pushing to get a total re-paint. Now will Dodge authorize it? Probably not, but maybe I can get my affected areas fixed.
