Sunroof won't open

Post by supercommuter » Wed Mar 16, 2011 1:50 pm

The sunroof in my new 2000 deosn't work. When you push the switch, the back end of the sunroof starts to flip up maybe a half inch, and then it just stops and the motor grinds loudly. You can hit the switch again and it will go back into the closed position. It's like it wants to open, but only gets that far and then quits.

So does it sound like a bad motor? Is there a way I can test the switch or the motor without pulling the headliner?

Or could it be stuck in the track? Is this a common problem?

I've been hesitant to try and help it along by pressing my hand against it and putting a little pressure. The last thing I want is for it to get stuck in the open position!

You may just need to apply some light pressure to the sunroof with your hand. There could be dirt or frozen water stuck in the tracks. Mine was stuck the same way until I helped it out.

or maybe the metal pin that holds the slider went off its position.
happens often.
there is a how-to for stuck sunroof.
remove the glas part and check the sliders!

I thought about that, but I'm too afraid it might get stuck open. That would be way worse.

I found the How To for the sunroof. Looks like it's a lot of work. Maybe I'll put that one off until later. Thanks!
