mopar 3d taillights

Post by dodgeneonzl » Thu Mar 24, 2011 4:06 am

Does anyone know how to open up the mopar 3d taillights? I know how to for the regular flat stock/aftermarket taillight, but these 3d ones seem to have a different place for the glue. Before i bake these i was just wondering if anyone know where are the prying points after i baked them...

Oh just if anyone's wondering, i'm making a custom led taillights within the 3d taillights. I know about the aftermarket ones already, but i like the shape of the 3ds, but just prefer them with leds :)

But back to the topic, anyone knows how to open these? I'm counting on lilsparkplug to know... she's a pro when it comes to light mods...

It looks to me, and this is just giving them a cursory glance, that the piece that's silver on them when they're stock (around the red circular lense and around the reverse light portion) is what gets pried. I can't see anywhere else to pry other than those areas.

What were you thinking.

LilSparkPlug: Yeah, i'm assuming that's where the glue are too, i'm and the side lenses just pops off from the side?, i'm just worried about melting them.

Forest Green 2k: wow indeed... lol...

Anyway, i've decided to continue this mod when summer gets around so i'll be done with school since break is almost over. I ran out of leds and only had enough for one side. But here's a little teaser of what i'm working on. Like always, i'm on a low budget so i'll say all theses take about $7 including leds, resistors, and diodes, all bought on ebay. The light has 60 leds total. I'll just run the light on 12v for a day or two and see if i get any burnt out... but it's been on continuously for about 12 hours now with no heat or burning out problems!

The first picture is the light as it looks when on 12v running light... so it looks like a halo when driving. all leds run 4 in series. The larger halo has 2x 470ohm resistors before running into larger halo. I made this so that it won't run on full 12v to extend it's life and also there'll be a dual brightness when brake is applied.
The rest of the picture is with brake lights on, so both halo lights up. the 12v from the brake was supplied to the larger halo thus bypassing the resistors, so the larger halo lights up brighter, along with the smaller halo during brake.

Because of how bright these things are, i tried to take pictures of them during the day. you will see some pictures have been underexposed to show you how bright these things are in the day. They're all taken at the same time... compare them to the first photo.

sorry about the long post... wrote it so that if anyone wants to do something similar to it, then they know how. :)

I have the 3D ones painted. It really looks better when color matched. But some people love the black look also.

Here is a pic of mine.

2k1MotorSport: If you do make a set, let me know how you open up your set! :) Yeah, i thought about color matching the tails, but i painted the lip kit between the exhaust tip black, so i had a silver/black theme going, but yours looks good with that all silver tone!

Danteneon: So you're not using the 3ds now? :o, what are you using now that's better than the 3ds? :p

LilSparkPlug: Thanks crystal! You're just being nice, i've seen some of your work before... this is nothing compared to yours :p

Johny: If you want to see the finished tail, it's gonna be a while lol... I'll keep ya updated when i finish it...
