I just ordered myself a few toys after making a few hundred off of good ol' eBay - one man's trash IS another man's treasure I suppose...

So, what's in store and on it's way?

(1) Silver OEM SRT-4 Spoiler
(1) Set Silver OEM SRT-4 Side Skirts (x4) and Door Trim Panels (x4)
(1) OEM SRT-4 Catback Exhaust (I pick it up tomorrow - thanks Ryan! aka sidepipe87)
(1) Silver Mopar Lip Kit

The fact they are all OEM & already Silver...PRICELESS

I think neon's look better with srt-4 wings, molded pov spoilers are overrated even though they are ok.

then again, its all opinions. personally, i think the srt4 wing is just
ridiculously too tall, and i favor sxt/pvo wings

I concur. I like the SRT wing. The best IMO is the SXT spoiler. 100% better looking than the hammerhead. :slap:

I've never been a fan of the PVO.

get the fuck outta town... my molded pvo looks sexy as fuck. I'm thinking about doing one on my red car as well...

The SRT exhaust is with my brother at work bud. So I'll get it tonight and we're on for tomorrow.

Well, you get my vote for that one.

And y'all don't forget- the bigger the wing, the more protection you get.

Over.. cough.. rated.. cough cough.

If you wanted flat lines you should have bought a 95 civic or a silvia.
Neon=round design, srt-4 spoiler complements the round design. End.

Neon's without a spoler finish flat in the back stock, poor design in general.

Design theory > opinions.

an SRT wing on a non-SRT is only slightly better than the typical ricer park bench wing. It's too damn tall and looks ridiculous. If you want a rounded spoiler back there instead of the AVS/PVO one, go with SXT. It's not so tall as to look ridiculous, but it still breaks up the flattened trunk look that ^^ is talking about.

Mo Neon:  wingless looks damn smooth, but I guess a wing taller than the car "accents" it perfectly hahaha

The SXT wing fails, as it blocks too much rear veiw.

The SRT, while being too high, eliminates that problem. But it makes a nice shopping cart appearance.

The Hammerhead/PVO/none FTW!

But in all, it doesn't bother me in the least what you put on your trunk lid.

There must be a shit ton of people here who don't know how to adjust a mirror...

If you adjust your mirror properly, the SXT wing does not block your vision at all. Same thing with the SRT one.

srt wing looks like the superbird wing on the roadrunners

The Superbird wing had a real reason to be that tall, and it had nothing to do with aerodynamics. According to Chrysler, the SRT wing height is to provide stabillity from 130-150mph.

E-cookie to the first person to answer why the Superbird wing was so tall.

Sorry for the threadjack :(

So the models on the trunk had something to hang onto?

Or (seriously) so the trunk can open.

Two stories explain the rear spoiler. The common idea is that it's three feet tall so the trunk can open. However, it could have simply been mounted on the trunk in the production cars. An interview with the engineers at Chrysler, long ago, included a comment to the effect that as the numbers kept getting better as they raised the spoiler, until it was three feet off the car, that's where they left it.
To keep the rear tires on the ground at speed.

While not identical cars, but damn close...
The 1969 Dodge Daytona had a drag coefficient (cd) of just 0.28, better than most cars made in the 1990s. It would have produced even less drag, if it weren't for the tall spoiler (added to keep the rear wheels on the ground at high speeds).

Correct Sean :D

Chrysler did experiment with different heights, and they found that 18" gave the best results. When showing the final prototype to the corprate brass, one person asked how the trunk would open. They hadn't even thought of that.

you fail... I had an SRT wing for a long time and got rid of it because it does NOT flow well... Design Theory? Who the fuck do you think you are? Lee Iacocca? The AVS/PVO is anything but "flat lines". It's very curved in may directions... It compliments the car well and I've gotten way more compliments on it as opposed to the SRT wing. Well... ricers liked the park bench but only because it's loud, not because it flows well.
TheRandom1 wrote: If you adjust your mirror properly, the SXT wing does not block your vision at all. Same thing with the SRT one.
I will disagree with you on this until the day I die... the sxt wing is just plain in the way... until I find a mirror that allows me to see THROUGH it, that's the way it is at my height. SRT... I can see under it perfectly.

The trunk thing may be true for street driven cars, but the reason it wasn't mounted to the trunk was because the wing actually is mounted integral the rear of the body to provide support for the down force needed at 200 mph. The trunk would have been ripped off or collapsed.

If you ever have the chance to take a B body car up to 160 plus mph, you will fully understand the real reason the wing is so tall. Bring your Depends.

The problem was that while fine for NASCAR, the same spolier height on the road cars (which is what was being shown) would not allow the trunk to open because it hit the 18" spoiler. Since the street cars had to match in apearance to the NASCAR, the wing was raised.

Kinda like the reason the fender "caps" are on the street version of the car.

Not only did it allow you to open the trunk, it made a big difference with the handling of the cars. Having it up so high with the big side panels to the wing act essentially as a rudder, keeping the car tracking straight at the speeds they were reaching.

I <3 Winged B-bodies. I wanted to convert my '69 Road Runner to a Superbird clone but, no way for the price even the reproduction Superbird stuff brings.
occasional demons wrote:If you ever have the chance to take a B body car up to 160 plus mph, you will fully understand the real reason the wing is so tall. Bring your Depends.
A B-body at 100mph is scary enough, especially with 4 wheel drum brakes.

Anyway, I should have added (but I see it was already mentioned) that the hammerhead blocks rear view. Especially if you have an auto-dimming rear-view mirror. It just so happens to block the light DIRECTLY where the sensor is, and it never dims.

Main reason I despise the PVO spoiler (molded) is you know that trunklid it's on is filled with bondo. I'm a body guy so I've seen the long term effects on stuff like that. Few years tops before you start seeing cracks and such. Even less if it's a car that sees lots of sun.

Today I accomplished two more things before the parts come in...removal of the side body moldings and trunk badges - to give the SXT that much, cleaner, look. I personally HATE those tacky body moldings that everyone seems to think actually protects your door from dings/damage. Ha, give me a break. They look cheesy and 3/4 the time don't do their job *coughs* that's why my Audi rear passenger door had scratches and markings all the way up it's door WITH the body molding still on...right? ;) *coughs*

So, here are some pics taken earlier:

Body molding:

Rear Door removed:

Driver side removed:

Driver side completed & cleaned:

Trunk debadged:

Now I need some help/opinions...every door came out perfect, until the Pass. front door (go figure, the very last one I did and it had to give me trouble!) but that door must have got a lot more sun than the others...as the paint underneath the molding is much brighter than the rest, even the rear passenger door didn't have that problem...and it's sort of obvious that molding was there. Do y'all have any tricks to even it out or make it a lot less noticeable? (certain waxes, etc. I could buff it with?)

Now I'm just hoping the rain clouds stay away and I get time tomorrow to finally install the drilled rotors & new front brake pads I've had sitting around since January haha ;)

Depends on what you mean by brighter... I find it hard to believe it could be a different color unless it was repainted.

Probably just needs to be buffed, or at worst case scenario wetsanded and then buffed.

It's very common issue. The paint not covered by the mouldings hasn't faded like the rest of the door has.

Thanks guys - both of what you said was my exact thoughts. I had a similar problem with my 98 F-150 only I removed the body moldings 1) b/c I hate moldings and 2) because I was repainting the truk to begin with LOL

I'll to get pics of it tomorrow - it really isn't *that* noticeable as it is on a silver car...but it is there...and w/ my OCD I'm afraid it will keep bother me but I do not want to put the moldings back on..
I find it hard to believe it could be a different color unless it was repainted.

Knowing my sister and her past Hx of driving...it probably was repainted...the girl was only in like 8 friggin' accidents while owning it! rofl

Thanks iThane :) You are asking for a progress log of the SRT parts, or the mismatched front door? lol sorry...been a long day - brain isn't working and common sense is out to lunch...please leave a message :withstupid:

P.S. there will definitely be a progress log, with pics, as each part gets installed. First will be ryan's SRT catback exhaust - we're meeting tomorrow & hopefully by wednesday I'll have it up on my lift and have torn the old rusted one out  Can't wait to hear the sound of a nice deep throaty exhaust again - been listening to the stock SRT on yTube and they sounds purrrrty

btw, hard to believe this was her just 4 months ago before I finished all the engine & body work...

 i mean like a complete progress log of everything that happens to your
car lol. unless you already have one? this is just an "exterior" section
post, this should all be in your progress log to keep us fellow 2gn
members up-to-date with your car

and just a heads up: the exhaust will make you piss yourself. (in a
good way) its gonna be loud and nothing like you expect. youtube
videos do no justice
