Door arm Thingy that pops and is annoying

Hey guys, i've got this little arm that keeps being a little

and popping everytime i open my door

here is picture:

it's really gettingon my nerves, and my girlfriend hates it, is there anythign i can do, i thought i saw a thread that said something about drilling it, and putting a rivet in to stop it from doing that.

also, the little boot thing(i think) and it seems to have come off?
Btw, that white stuff is lithium grease that i had spreayed on

It is about the only way you will fix it, other than replacing it. The grease on the outside will do nothing, as you have found out.

Edit: The boot sliding to the front is normal, AFAIK.

what size of pop rivet did he use? i have about 4 different sizes at my dads place. is there any specific size?
