I’m looking to add some LED light are to the neon since I’m living in the country I could use more light for the dark roads!

My main question is how do you measure for installing light bars on the roof and the bumper. I got the wiring part down just need to figure out bar length and mounting brackets.

You may be the first so you may have to do some experimenting.

First, is check into the legality of using those kind of lights in your area.

For the front, the best solid place to mount is going to be the physical bumper behind the bumper cover. People modify them all the time to fit intercoolers, so I can’t see it being a big deal to put a couple holes in it to mount some simple lights. Could mount the front lights so they’re behind the cover but will shine out the crosshairs.

Other point is, if the light bar is small enough it may not need something as rigid as the bumper.

I’ve never installed something on the roof like that but I’m sure google will give you some insight into that process. Probably easiest to measure with a soft tape so it curves with the roof.

Just mount two on the crash bar, behind the mesh in the two upper crosshair holes. That'll probably be enough. And those light bars aren't legal for road use, but no one's going to stop you on dark backroads.

thanks for all the input, i was thinking the internal bumper would be best to start with since they would have the hidden look which i like. i think in Ohio it is legal as long as they are pointed low like fogs and not blinding people. i haven't looked at the laws but a lot of trucks up here have it that way.

i didn't think of a fabric tape. i do know that there is a length difference and mount difference between the curved and non curved bars.

I think roof mounted lights would have to have a cover over them when traveling on a public road. Otherwise it would give them proper cause to pull you over whether they are on or not.

Also if they are illuminating the hood/area forward of the windshield the light will cause your pupils to contract, actually making it harder to see further into the night. Roof mounted lights are great for low speed driving off road/in the woods, but not so much for on the road driving at speed.

good info! i didn't think about the glare from the hood, , ill have to test out some different places when i get a bar and see how bade the glare would be. only other place i could think would be the hood attached to the hinges between the gap in the hood and fenders. not sure how feasible that would be or not but ill have to do some mock ups when i find a bar.

It's Chris Greenhouse's rally car. I don't think he ever posted about mounting the lights.

Ok I’ll look for info. I remember a while ago seeing a fiberglass hood with them molded into it.

I'm not seeing the one that I think your talking about, but here are some other examples.
The 1gn's look a lot simpler to add a light bar. Though a '00/'01 would be as simple due to the "grille" design being similar.

Using LED duallys can be a nice option also.
