Cleaned grafitti but possibly scratched the clear

On Feb. 10, early in the morning, some jerk came around and spray painted three cars and the dumpsters at my apartment complex. Mine was spray-painted the worst, with "poop" written across the top of my trunk lid, squiggles on the rear windshield, and a blob of paint covering my vanity license plate.

Luckily, I cleaned it off for under $15. The $15 includes rubbing compound, wax, buffing pads, and flannel rags. I thought that the pads and rags would be gentler than old clothes...but I was probably wrong.

You see, if I look at my car in enough light and at certain angles, I can tell that I kind of scratched the clearcoat. It looks like I drew circles into it. It's kind of hazy looking, too. But from sufficiently far away, the car looks okay.

I'm wondering if there's anything reasonably cheap that I could do to fix it. If the cops were actually competent at their job, I'd get restitution out of those brats that painted my car and take it to a body shop.

I don't know why I wrote this a month after it happened. I guess I thought I'd be too emo if I wrote earlier.

The rubbing compound is not very good for clearcoats...The best advice I can give you is to take your car to a professional auto detailer and pay the price to have the whole car done with a high speed buffer. Complete service may run you about $100 to $150, however it will look like new again.

wd-40 removes paint on top of paint better than anything I have ever used.....seriously, removes it fast! and doesn't damage your paint at all.

I should have asked before removing it...but I wanted it off ASAP after the police got evidence photos. Maybe that Zaino stuff would be good to try sometime :) Perhaps when we quit having storms that make my car dirty!

the factory paint is cured well and EXTREMELY durable, when some tool comes along and spray paints the word poop on your car with a spray can, and you utilize a lubricating solvent on it, it will slide right off of your paint, I have used it several times for bug and tar removal, as well as using it on a freinds car that someone had spraypainted on it, it comes right off and leaves your paint alone.......try it next time you have something stubborn on it......trust me, I show my car on a regular basis, I would be devistated if I put something on it that damaged the paint, I trust using WD-40 on my paint......I think it even says that on the can.

Wow, that's a pretty good testimonial! I might have to give that a whirl sometime... If I ever need something off my paint.
