License Plate lighting

Post by joelrgr » Thu Mar 23, 2006 11:14 am

Kitted ppl, what did you use to light up your plate at night? I have no mounting points and there isnt anywhere not visible to put a hole for the stock mount...was thinking individual LEDs in the bumper above or on the side of the plate, but then i run into not being able to have the light visible from behind >.< Anyone with pics of what you did, or suggestions? Id rather not have a bigass truck bumper light lol

My r34 bumper had a place for the light too..my problem was notching it to make the plate fit at all. maybe you could get a few LEDs and screw them into the top part and use those. Im sure they would be bright enough to light up the plate

the problem is the top and sides around my plate are angled, there is no ledge to hide anything and the lights cant be visible from behind unless im reversing >.<

I see what you mean....Hmmm...I dont nkow what you could do about that. Maybe get some of those LED liscense plate bolts? then at least you would have some sort of light back there

Again lol the bulbs cant be visible and those would shine straight back...I was thinking if i could fab a lil housing to attach to my plate fram that could house LEDs angled towards my plate, and i could just tape and tint the side of the led facing straight back...

Just go to the fabric store and pick up some Glow in the Dark craft paint and rub it on your plate digits. *shrug*

I'd keep looking at LED lighting, though. ;)

Damn... poor design on the bodykit maker's part... I'd say either:
1.) Stick some LED's in the bumper facing down
2.) Find some sort of THIN LED strip (autozone) but white (which might be tricky) and stick it/mount it up top... it won't look TOO bad I don't think....

Simple solution. Get a motercycle light! Scroll down near the bottom of the page to see some cool led light licence plate bolts. This exactly what you need.

i don't have any pics, but basically all i did was replace my license plate light housing with a 10" neon tube. You can't see it at all. I think NeonJoe might still have pics of his
