Removal of door trim gone bad!

Well it is safe to say that I wouldnt recommend this job to anybody who has a car older than mine. I gave it a shot the other day and the paint was bubbled underneith. It looked really clean when I took the side mouldings off tho, and then I buzzed away all the glue, and it took some paint with it. I then found out that grey primer looks horrible on a black car. So unfortunately the only people who got to see my car without them was whoever saw me on my trip to cranky tire to pick up 2 sided tape. So the side mouldings are back on! lol

aww that sucks

...I took mine off my 01 in 03, but I didnt have bubbling since it was only about a year and a half old.
look at it this way...at least your doors will be protected if someone hits thier door on your door, that is the one drawback of not having them

that sucks. for me, the paint is kind of faded and bubbled. from what i heard, the fading goes away in about a 8 to 12 month period. thats what i heard. not really sure if its true or not.

eventually, it will fade to match. just needs enough exposure to the sun and everything and it will match eventually.

Yeah, but the bubbles will not go away.
Same reason why mine has the wing and the moulding on... Although, I think my car looks a little strange without the wing.

lol ya the only thing is getting a bendy piece of rubber back on the car and make it look perfect, trust me, its not easy. Not easy too see unless your really looking. For some reason mine looks like it is higher at the back than the front, but it could be just the way the car sits, because it ended up doing that on both sides.

That sucks bro, I hope they don't start curling up around the edges. Now THAT looks horrible.
atleast you can't see the trim on a black car as easily as on a bright blue or red one.
yea

Yea mine is a blue one, so i really wanted the trim off. All in all it went well and there was no bubbleing but there was some color diffence but not to bad now it looks great.

well if they start curling or anything ill just take it to a body shop and get them to do it right. I said screw it with the 2 sided tape, cuz it doesnt work and i glued them on with super weatherstrip adhesive. Not comin off now!

I guess it depends on who they get to paint it, doesn't it? Unless Progressive has a body shop...

Progressive will always go for a shop with the cheapest price to save money...my mistake there...
i should have demanded that it be painted by the dodge dealership i bought the car from(because i trust them, i used to work there)

ya, when it comes it insurance, they have to ask you first before they do anything to it. Its also your choice where they do the work at, if you recommend a place, thats where it gets done. Its your car, it should be your choice. Its not like you planned for an accident. Ya I would be pissed, expecially if it is an 03.

I took my molding off on my 01 in 05 and it came off really nice. I did it on a hot ass humid day in August. There are incy bitsy little bubbles, but you literally have to put your cheek against the door and look at it at the right angle to see them. Damn, the moldings on Neons are fugly. Makes the car look so much better. But yeah if that happened to my car I would slap them back on, plus its black so your eally don't notice them in the first place. I see alot of white Neons with the black trim. Ewww. thats cool that you put it all back on w/o any problems.
I see snow in the background...Are you in cold climate, cause if you are thats another reason why it was a bitch to take off.

ya it was cold out, but now its getting warmer. I am glad I didnt wreck anything while doing it, because I would like to sell the car now for school 9500 obo (cdn). The glue I used was yellow, I just have to find some way to either hide the glue (by maybe putting a thin piece of rubber on the top part of the side moulding, between the moulding and the paint) But overall it worked well.

What sucks is that you didn't tell them where to take your car to get it painted. Like it was said above, it is your choice.
I took my 01's off in 03ish I believe, no bubbling, no paint mismatch.

The dealership told me that THEY put the molding on at the dealership.

I don't know, most dealers will tell you anything if they do not know the answer. Min came without it, which was why I chose my car - I didn't even know what an ACR was when I bought it - I just wanetd a neon with an MTX and no molding. Plus, all the 03's in the lot looked ugly (I hate the grille)
