gaming section.

Post by hul kogan » Mon Mar 17, 2008 11:58 pm

I just recently found out there is a gaming section under the off-topic area of the forum. It seems like a lot of others never noticed it either since it is all the way at the bottom. Any way to make it more visible so it gets more traffic?

It would really help but if I do that it'll screw up the Neon Meets, Part Numbers, and How To sections by having the subforums at the top pushing the topics to the bottom.

yea, i see what you are saying. i know you can set it globally to have the topics at the top and subforums underneath (which is the way you have it) but is there a way to set parameters in an individual area of the forum (e.g. Off-Topic) to move subtopics to the top?

i figured that might be the case. i don't know an awful lot about PHP beyond some basics...i am a designer not a programmer, after all! haha.

i will talk to a friend of mine, who is a programmer, and see what he thinks. sometimes when things are hard coded in you are better off leaving well enough alone because it can cause problems with upgrades in the future.

i just wish we could come up with a solution that doesn't involve messing with the code. hmmm...

Doing code changes like that shouldn't matter since the files will be replaced anyway when I put phpBB3 in. Code changes shouldn't matter, it's the database that I don't want to alter anymore than it already is. Right now I'm waiting for phpBBgarage to finish up then after that I think I'll be able to upgrade the forum to phpBB3.

any idea if phpBB3 will have more parameter customization? this problem might be resolved with that upgrade, if so.

Not sure, I had a test forum setup a few months ago but I think I deleted it to clean up the server. I haven't set another one up since the Gold Release came out so I'm not sure...

well, i think a good option would be to wait on that upgrade to see if that gives you the ability to change parameters for a specific part of the forum. if that doesn't work out then we can always go the route of modifying the code.
