New Neon owner: Prop-jockey turned gearhead?

Howdy everyone!
My name's Dan, but I go by Skyjay/jay just the same. Just picked up a 2000 Dodge Neon ES MTX and it's been a long time coming! I've wanted a neon ever since I rented a brand new '04 SXT for a week.
Just rolled over 86k, the car has some silly little issues (stuck boot, broken switches, non-functional sunroof, etc.) but the engine and transmission was immaculate and a sweet bargain at 3k flat.
I've worked as an aircraft mechanic for an air show demo team for a while, and am finally getting around to translating those skills to automobiles. So I apologize in advance if my understanding of certain parts and concepts is a little 'in the clouds' shall we say.
I'm really excited at finding out that Neons have such a following, and can't wait to start adding performance/upgrades and suchlike.
Well, that's about all I can muster this late in the evening. It is my hope that I can somehow be of service at some point for all the annoying questions I'm sure to ask in the coming months.
