Hi,
I just picked up a Black 5spd 05 Sxt. Glad to have found this site, but looking for more economy mods then perf, gotta conquest in the garage im hoping to build up for some auto-x for fun... Anyways, I just started searching but if anyone read this and has link they can post easily it would b appreciated, ive read that with some mods these cars are good for 35 - 40 mpg? thats what im looking for, as this is my daily driver and id be real happy with that. I really like the styling and size of the car over its competitors, and if i can get it to that mpg, this car would be the best... its only been 2 days and i think im getting around 30, maybe alil less, but its been really cold here in PA and I read while im running defrost its runs the AC, something I dont think is necessary, so im going to check the climate control, I also dont want it auto shifting from non recirc, i want complete control of the climate settings... so after that im looking into what cold air intakes are good and maybe exhaust, im hoping that those will get me there.

I haven't really modified much on my car. I have a K&N drop in filter and an Underdrive Pulley (UDP).

Even before the UDP I was able to achieve 38+MPG on a long highway trip.

Unless you daily drive is >60 or so miles with minimal traffic, I wouldn't expect to see much more than 36mpg on your commute. With low to mids 30s being more reasonable. I drove from the north side of baltimore to college park for a year or so and would get right around 33mpg.

Also, when figuring your MPG don't use the gauge. Neons have grossly inaccurate fuel gauges. The only true way to figure economy is to fill it, drive around for a whole tank and then fill it again and divide the miles by the gallons. Don't worry about the gauge letting you run out as I have seen that they err on the side of caution, so when it says you have 3/4 tank you really have more than that.

thanks for the info frank, ill look into the gains from getting a UDP, i saw some reviews of them, how do you like yours? also saw one guy who was selling short thro shifters for around $100, seems like a reasonable price if they hold up well, i kno a guy who had a bad experience with an ebay kit, anyone have one installed on their neon?

I don't have a Short Throw Shifter (STS), but I have heard awesome reviews of the Maddog STS. He is on this site.

If you are going with a new STS you should also check out Booger Bushings (shifter cable bushings) and JonnyMopar Bushings (shifter cradle bushings). JonnyMopar is a member here and his bushings can be found in the vendor section. Jeff (Booger Bushings) has a website and a google search should it easily.

I like the UDP, I think it helps a little with lower RPM accelerating more than anything, but it is minimal. I don't really think there was enough of an economy difference to justify it.

First off :hello2: Welcome to 2gn.

I have one of the Maddog STS, which I purchased last December, and I absolutely love it. Dealing with Chuck (a.k.a. Maddog) was a pleasant and very smooth experience. I would highly recommend picking one up if you get a chance, you wont regret it one bit. He also has deals going a lot of the times just keep your eyes open.

I can also add , as Frank mentioned, that the Booger Bushing are a great product as well.

Ah, an SRT-D you got there... Don't forget to fill out the Garage section on this here site. Thanks for the comment about my banner- the credit goes to Dave (FTWNeon) for making it for me.

hey, just filled out the garage section thats pretty cool. Ive done one mod so far, I cut the resonator tubing for better air flow, also just got snow tires put on for the winter. How do you guys rate this car in the snow? I figure it go pretty well? And unfortunately I encountered my first Problem this week. I had some issues with my radio going on and off, and dash lights flickering. I did some research and figured it might be ground issue. I checked my grounds and batt terms and they turned out to be corroded, so i spent an hour cleaning them all. Hoping that will fix it. I may add a better ground in place of that large on by the batt that has on part welded to batt holder, im planning on upgrading stock stereo to a unit that has HD radio and bluetooth and installing a sub. which reminds me, how many amp is our alt? anyone kno...
