New from PA

Post by Bagnut » Wed Nov 20, 2013 9:31 pm

New here, just got a 2001 neon from a friend about 2 months ago. It is an ex show car, that I built for him about 9 years ago and it has sat pretty much ever since. The car has 13xxx original miles, he got it with 12xxx and put maybe 1000 miles on it total. It had Lamborghini doors on it, 18's, bags, Razzi kit, hood, m3 vents cut into the fenders all fiberglass interior. I swapped the fenders, and put new 17's on it now. I also plastidipped the hood, roof, trunk and spoiler matte black. The kit is sold and I'm looking to most likely do a 2002 neon front bumper with the 2000 civic lip, and probably the srt4 skirts and rear bumper wanting to give it a much cleaner look. The Lambo doors are off and I picked up all factory charcoal pieces for the interior now, so no more fiberglass. I also want to remove the wing and possibly swap the hood for an srt4 one, not sure yet on that, I just think this hood is dated on its style.

When I got it from him:

Welcome!

Thankfully you are cleaning it up. It is a bit over the top for functional. :lol:

Got to love the low miles, tho sitting for so long might have had a negative effect on seals, and what ever valve springs that sat compressed for long periods of time.

But valve springs are cheap, so it wouldn't break the bank if you run into valve float issues at a lower than expected rpm.

If I were to swap out my Kaminari Viper fascia, it would be for the '02 front.

Yeah he did start it every now and then and drive around his development, ever so often so I think that is the only thing that has helped it. I did a full tune up on it, new battery and that's it mechanically so far, gotta do a new fuel regulator as well soon.

The look was dead on for 2003/4 when I did it for him, but definitely living in the past right now. The kid left a deposit on the kit Friday and should be getting it next week, so I am going to try to get an 02 bumper in the next few days for it.

Haha yeah I said the same thing . Doesn't make sense to get rid of the kit before the snow comes...

Yeah I'm definitely leaving the air ride, I always have at least one vehicle bagged. I also have an 84 monte ss bagged. I got the neon to save mileage on my navigator and to get better mpg than it as well, but still need the room of the nav with 3 kids so still need and want that.
Mtx audio? No, it was all Memphis audio equipment, he was working at the audio shop I was at the time and Memphis was our number 1 line.

No, Justin meant manual transaxle.

MTX = Manual
ATX = Automatic.

Somewhere there is a thread on acronyms for the general lingo.

Thanks. The fenders were replaced, that's where the color difference is. Once I have the new body parts all on ill be plastidipping the car so it will all match then.

Go a clean base model trunk tonight and dipped it, so no more spoiler. Crap pics but cleaner look.

You need to start a project log to show progress on the car. so the intro thread isn't 20 pages long. :)

Plus if you ever plan on attempting to sell anything removed, you need a minimum of 40 quality posts, and intro/off topic do not count towards your posts.

Looking good so far!

Thanks

I finally got the kit off and did a 2002 front bumper. I started playing with some dip, but think I'm going with matte red instead for the car. I want to do the srt rear bumper, side skirts and a civic type r lip up front, but I'm broke from Christmas so it needs to wait. Here are current pics.
