Finally installed the motor, transmission, all wiring but...

Doing a SRT-4 Motor swap into your Neon, maybe even a 2.4... have questions about it, what you'll need or what issues you'll run into? Answers can be found in here.

Finally installed the motor, transmission, all wiring but...

Post by dave09092 » Wed Nov 14, 2007 8:15 pm

I finally installed the motor, transmission and all the engine wiring. The brake lights are always on. I thought it was because the brake system had air in it, but I bleed the system and it's still on. I don't see any connection to the brake pedal so I don't know what it can be. Also the fuel pump does not turn on. Right now I'm using the 2000 neons body harness and dash harness. The srt dashboard and all components seem to works ok. The engine cranks and has power on the coil.

Can someone please help?

Thanks,
Dave

If you use the stock dash harness you have to move a couple of the wires in the plug. Its in the srt 4 swap sticky. And you can use the stock neon body harness but you will just have annoying codes pop up, but willnt effect anything. And that plug might be the abs, which you willnt have unless you have a front and rear discs brakes.

The brake light in the dash?

Did you swap SRT brakes (or the SRT ABS module, and some other 4 wheel disc setup) into your 2000?

I'm sure the PCM is looking for connectivity to the ABS module and throws the light since it can't find it. If this is so, both the ABS and BRAKE lights will show.

I figure why the brake lights are always on...it was because I don't have the brake lamp switch. I'll get one tomorrow.

Now my second issue...The fuel pump doesn't work. I tested the fuel pump plug with the ignition switch on and none of the 4 wires on the fuel pump plug had power. It was working fine when it had the 2000 engine harness.

The dash and all component seem to work OK. The problem I have is that I have no power to the fuel pump and back tail lights are always on ( just like someone pressing on the brake)

There's a plug on the body harness that I can't find where it connects to.

If that plug is down by your left foot on the kick panel attached to the body harness, the reason why the fuel pump isn't working is because of that. The wire that runs to the fuel pump relay in the PDC is pin 2 on that plug. The plug that should go with it should be on the engine bay harness, the one that passes through the firewall and had the big black and grey plugs on it that connected to the dash harness.

That's exactly where it is...left foot on the kick panel attached to the body harness. I look at all the plugs that pass through the firewall from the engine wiring and I could not find another plug.

There are 5 plugs that pass through the firewall; one connects to the clutch switch, the black and gray plugs that connect to the dash harness, Then I have two plugs that I don't know where they go.

Can you guys please post a picture of how the plug that connects to the plug on the body harness for the fuel pump and the plug that connects to the brake lamp switch?

The problem I had was with the fuel pump plug on the body harness.

Here's a comparison

Hey Hey
Wow I did not have that problem but your 00 pix is blurrey I am hopping that when I get thebugs out of mine I don't have to change out any harness (we started to change the rear harness so we don't get the NVLD code) but the plug there is not the same so we tryed to rewire the right plug for the canister (SRT ) into the stock harness if that does not work then we change out all the harness (rear and underdash)

unconnect all your wires that are down there and get a pic of them. you should have like 4 plugs comming off the engine bay harness down there. one for the clutch, one for the brake, one for the fuel pump, and then the other one that conencts to nothing (it's the all white one in your pic. it is used when you hook up the odb and stuff). there might be a 5th one, but i dont remember any other plugs down there. did you swap in the engine bay harness from an srt? also when you are saying you brake light stays on. do you mean your actual brake lights or the brake light on your gauge cluster?

It's actually 6 plugs coming off the engine bay harness. The big black and gray plugs that connect to the dash board, the square gray plug that connect to the fuel pump, the plug that connects to the clutch safety switch, the white plug that should connect to the brake lamp switch and the plug where you hook up the odb.

Yes, I swap in a complete srt-4 engine bay harness from a 2005.

When I say brake light stays on, I mean the actual brakes lights. When I purchased the brake and clutch pedal assembly from a seller on Ebay, it didn't come with the brake lamp switch. I believe that's why the brake lights are always on. I will order the 5083344AA brake switch and a new stage 1 pcm to bypass the skim module.

Hery Hey
Dave just so you know we had our PCM reprogran to the skim tha's in the car one is a s1 and the other is a stock 04 PCM wht two if I get a code for the s1 when the state does it check I can install the stock and hope it pasted so you may want to check with your Dodge dealer and ask if they can do it so don't and some will I heard that a PCM will take 3 or 4 skim changes after that I nor sure what happens

Well, the problem I have is that my 2000 neon didn't come with the sentry system. I was told that by getting a brand new from the dealer stage 1 PCM, it would bypass the sentry system; since it has never been introduced to it. If not , then I'll have to look for a matching skim module, key and PCM. I'll let you know if the new stage 1 bypasses the sentry system.
