Finished but need help!

I have a finished SRT swap neon, I have the SRT dash and engine harness. HERE are my problems, my dome light does not come on when i open the door if the key is not in it. My Driver side fog and corner dont work, but have good bulbs. My Dash resets evertime I turn the car on, and says FUSE.
I have read on some of these topics but no one has given specific answers. I need to know what to do exactly to fix it. My power windows, and mirrors work, but not locks. The dash also flickers when im drivng as if there is a short. I can live with that but would like to fix it if possible. If it is a ground, can you tell me where to look? I am capable of doing it with some guidance. I am somewhat mechanically incline and trying to learn.
Thanks in advance for the help.

if the dome light doesn't work at all, start there. if it does work on the MFS switch, but not door switch, fix that problem. if those don't solve the fuse issue, idk where else to look (assuming you've used an ohm meter to check all the fuses).

Thanks but that didnt really help. I dont know where to start. The dome does not come on with the swith on the column or the door if the key is off. BUT if the key is on both work. Everything else is the big problems Im concerned with.
Also I am unfamiliar with fuses, and wouldnt know which ones to check or really even how to check them. Or what fuse uses what amp fuse. I would try but I dont have a fuse diagram for the SRT just for the neon, so I dont know if Im even right.
Thanks

Hey Hey
The dome light is part of the rear harness if you have the code for the purge system you need to change out the rear harness and it's all the stuff in the rear if the car if you don't need or care about that code you can (service manual ) find how the wire are in the stock plug and change them to the srt we have the same problem but when we get it runnung right then we will change out the under dash harness and the rear one also
As for the fuse check out the yellow fuse holder in the fuse box under the hood and see if it's good did you change out the under hood harness that's got the fuse box. were all the wires that go into the car there is a large black connector in that connector you need to move the wire from 4 to 5 or 5 to 4 I forget which and thats for your right turn sign as far as to why your fog and side marker trouble shoot it you want to get a test light it makes it a lot easer to trouble shoot most thing that you got going on and as far as the locks again trouble shoot them
If you don't know how to use a test light PM me and I will try to walk you though it
We can turn a wrench but this computer stuff got me lost but I going slow and We will get her done soon but it might go smother for you if you change out the other harness

superman63086,
Is FUSE flashing on the odometer?Check the yellow fuse holder in the fuse box under the hood like datadave mention. Have you check for cel codes? Turn your ignition to acc and then off 5 times. Write down any codes you get.

Thanks I will try that, but as for the body harness, i really dont want to mess with, we removed the bulb from the engine light so that it wouldnt always be on. I will pm you about checking the system. About the dome, I can live with it, but I would really like to get the dash in order and the driver fog and corner.
See my right and left turn signal work, just not my left corner and fog.
As for the FUSE it is the whoe SRT cluster that resets and then says FUSE. Its fine after that, but would still like to fix it.
Thanks for the help so far.
Hey Ive got an idea if any of you get the time could you take a picure of the dash and the engine fuse boxes, and point out which ones I need to check first. Thanks
One more thing, if I were to accidentally use a wrong amp fuse, could or would in blow. Lets say it calls for a 20amp and I put a 15 amp in. Thanks
Hey dont get me wrong, I wont get rid of my car, but has anyone figured out how to fix the remote locking system with this swap. I had two key fabs for the locks and power locks. But the guy who finished the wiring, ASE mechanic and dodge enthusiast, said it couldnt be done. I hope he is wrong I would like to be able to use them at some point.
OK just checked the yellow fuse clip but I dont see a box type fuse in the engine fuse box. The one I checked had a clip on it and it was fine. \\[]// It looked like that.
And as far as the test light I have one, it said fuse tester when I bought it. it lights up when the fuse is getting power. But if thats right then half the fuses in the dash box arent even getting power.
This is what my dash fuse box looks like.

dave09092, didn't you say you had this exact same problem?

I'm going to have to read into this, something seems strange if there are 2, year 2000 neons that are doing the same thing

superman63086,
I'll take a picture of the fuse and post it here. Does the cluster reset every time you turn ON the car? Do all the cluster needles move all the way to the right and slowly return to the original place?

Yes, I did. I'm still trying to figure out what's wrong.

I have heard from the grapevine that it is common, but all the people who have done it are no longer on the forums and their questions were never answered.
Thanks and maybe we can make this a sticky if we get an answer.
Dave09092
Yes the cluster does exactly that. But I dont have the original 00 dash harness. And its not a bad harness. I read in another thread about the 05 harness being bad, which I highly doubt. My friend and mechanic finished my car. So I dont know what is causing it.
Thanks for any help
Oh and has anybody got the Haynes manual, my mechanic has mine. I forgot to get it from him. Maybe there are discrepancies in the wiring for different years. I dont mind splicing some wires and stuff to get things working right.
If you want to know why I had a mechanic do the work, Ill just say I was promised gold and got S***. I bought the car HALF(LOL) finished. Basically in lots of pieces and I was just learning basic mechanics. Most of the work that needed done was harnesses and I was not about to mess it up. So I have almost $8000 in a car that was only suppose to cost me $6000.
But I love the car and would do it over if I had to.

I will swap back in the srt-4 dash harness to see if I can find the problem. Does the cluster reset every time you turn the ignition switch to acc? Do all the cluster gauge needles move all the way to the right and slowly return to the original place? I just want to know if we have the exact same problem.

yes exactly the same. and it says fuse on the odometer.
by the way abreviations dont work to well for me yet. I am not as fluent in mechanics as some. So what are cel codes?
If you mean engine codes
I have 2 codes that come up twice
P0499 x2
P0073 x2

Another quick question while we search for answers. Where is everyone mounting there ECU. I have mine zip tied to the car. Because the stock location for the SRT wont work. And what about an overflow tank. Neither stock overflow tank works for the radiator. Im currently using a (LOL) powerade bottle.

One more thing, My best friend is wanting to do a swap, but he was wanting to know where he can find a donor car. If any of you have good leads on donor srts he would really appreciate it.
Thanks

superman63086,
Did you swap the body harness? I'm not getting my new stage 1 until December 31, so I will swap back in the srt-4 dash harness to see if can figure out what's wrong. I fuc*ing hate Flight Systems! They have put a complete stop to my srt-4 swap.
BTW here are your cel/engine codes
P0499- NVLD canister vent valve solenoid circuit high
P0073 Ambient temp sensor high
Thanks,
Dave

By flight do you mean Sentry?
And what do those codes mean?
And no I never swapped the body harness, too much work.

Flight Systems is where you get the stage PCM upgrades for the srt-4. I was expecting my stage 1 pcm to be shipped today and now they tell me its on back order and changed the ETA to December 31.
The only way to fix cel P0499- NVLD is by swapping in an srt-4 body harness and NVLD.
I don't know about P0073. I will research it and let you know what I find.
Thanks,
Dave

P0499 as Dave said, is your NVLD pump that you dont' have since you have a 2000. You will need to get the NVLD pump (one on ebay right now), swap it out along with the body harness.
P0073 - This might give you some direction. I don't have access to my FSM here at work to see what it says about a diagnostic.
http://www.srtforums.com/forums/f35/p00 ... es-286892/
ECU, you'll have to find a 2003+ ECM bracket which will work just fine for you so the ECM can be mounted in the stock SRT location.
Coolant bottle, you can use the SRT bottle as it will work just fine. Problem is the regular Neon fuel line that runs to fuel tank is angled differently compared to the SRT fuel line to clear the coolant bottle. You can either CAREFULLY bend your neon line out strait to clear the coolant bottle or find an SRT line and swap that out but it might be a little difficult now if you have the engine in.
Also, CEL = check engine light.

dome light doesnt turn on with open door for 2 reasons:
1) you need the SRT body harness
2) your car has seperate door ajar switches and locks. the SRT, is combined. since there's no door ajar switch mated into your locks, the car never knows the doors are opened. Your ajar switch is a pin switch in the door jam.
To get the ajar switch to work propperly, you'de have to somewhat rewire it, splicing the ajar switch wire on the SRT wiring, into the ajar switch on your car.
Seisephiroth has the same problem with his.
the flashing FUSE is from the missing NVLD system, and constant resetting cluster is a ground issue.
Also:
P0073: Ambient Temp Sensor HIGH
When Monitored: The ignition key on.
Set Condition: The Ambient Temperature Sensor voltage is greater than 4.9 volts. One Trip Fault.
POSSIBLE CAUSES
AMBIENT AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR VOLTAGE ABOVE 4.9 VOLTS
(K145) AAT SIGNAL CIRCUIT SHORTED TO BATTERY VOLTAGE
AMBIENT AIR TEMPERATURE SENSOR INTERNAL FAILURE
(K145) AAT SIGNAL CIRCUIT OPEN
(K4) SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT OPEN
PCM
Basically, what that says is its either a bad AAT sensor, or its not plugged in...

NiteHawk,
The only ground I saw on the srt-4 dash harness was the two set of wires located behind the stereo. Can they be causing the cluster to reset every time I turn the ignition switch to ACC? When I swap back in my 00 neons dash harness all the ground wires I saw where those two sets of wires behind the stereo.
Thanks,
Dave

Superman, get you ass in gear and get your pile fixed!

just kidding, I love your car. I'm the guy who's looking for the donor car. So Is the aat going to cause problems? Performance wise? I'm curious too as we are swapping into my 2000.(superman and I).

Dave: if the ground isnt securely tightened down, yes, it will cause that to happen...
Posted: Fri Nov 30, 2007 1:00 pm
by superman63086
will that ground also cause the cluster to flicker while driving, if it isnt pulling constant voltage? I am just curious and again what do I check for my fog and corner.
Nitehawk any idea?
Posted: Fri Nov 30, 2007 3:00 pm
by NiteHawk
the situation i ran into when i did the swap for Seisephiroth is that the ground caused the cluster to constantly reset when the window switches, lock switches, or lights were turned on, but the probem with flickering while driving yes could also be caused by a bad ground.
problem with the fog and corners, i'm not sure. before tryig to figure those out, make sure you have the SRT harnesses ALL installed... Engine bay, Body, Dash...

sorry not gonna happen Im not gonna swap body harnesses. But I would still like to figure out how to fix the problems. No offense but some of us dont have the time or money or good weather for that. Plus the car runs and drives and my stereo works so I cant complain too much. Thanks for the help so far. I will continue to work on it. And I look forward to more feedback.

if you have the harness, just swap the damn thing, you'll never eliminate all of the codes if you dont.
its your car man, do what you want, but im telling you, there will always be little things that dont work all becuase you failed to swap a harness... there's several wires that dont match up between the SRT and 00 Neon wiring.
Swapping the body harness takes MAYBE 2 hours TOPS! remove the seats, lift up the driver and rear edge of the carpet, and just start pulling it up, going back...dont be lazy man, its too easy to just neglect doing it

NiteHawk,
Do you have the part number for the 2005 srt-4 body harness?
Thanks,
