Does SXT insurance cover SRT motor?

I would think this has been answered before, but I was unable to find anything in searching.

I was talking to a friend about my swap progress last night and he made me start to worry when he asked what would happen if I total the car in an accident after the swap is complete.

Since so many people have done the swap already, I thought I would ask you guys. Does insurance cover the SRT engine, and all of the parts that we are putting in, or will we just receive a check for the depreciated value of a Neon upon totaling our cars?

In short... I'm going to say No.

It has been my experience that any after market product you put on the car is not covered by insurance unless you take out addition insurance on the equipment.

Insurance companies could care less what you do to your car. They base all their claims on a bone stock, original Neon. You could have a $30,000 Neon all built up for show, but if you get into an accident and never added additional insurance, they'll only pay to fix what needs to be done to put it back to stock. Another example: slap a huge body kit on your car. If you get into an accident, they won't pay for a body kit, they'll pay for a stock nose to put back on.

I thought I remembered hearing somewhere that home owner's insurance covers the upgrades or something but it's been a long time and that person might have been wrong. If that's the case then, what is your opinion on adding additional insurance? Is it worth it, affordable, etc.?

When I looked into adding additional insurance for ALL my mods it would almost double the cost.

so from $165 it would have been $300ish. thats for about 8k of additional coverage and it only counts towards repair and not total loss. Total loss your car would be worth less due to the modifications and being less desirable (in terms of overall value) to the general public.

yeah.

It kinda sucks. But one thing about cars (regardless) you practically throwing money away. My thoughts are that I throw money away on a lot of things, coffee, dinners, etc. Having a car that makes me happy and gives me what I want is just another pleasurable expense.

Watching it get lost in an accident sucks, but it doesn't alway turn out for the worse.

My last Neon was head on hit and the insurance company parked it out front my house and let me get my after market stuff off as long as i replaced it with stock. So.... meh.

The only way you'll get it covered is to have a rider on your insurance to cover all your modifications. Some companies look past certain things though if the after market modification part is cheaper to replace than OEM though

I have all state insurance and i have EVERYTHING in and on my car insured, from stereo, tvs, custom fabrication, body kit rims etc etc. I have extra protection so if anything happens to my neon im insured for up to 18 grand. Not bad at all and the price to do it all on a monthly basis is really nothing.

That's probably because it was a MOPAR lip kit. You could have bought the car new from the dealership with the lip kit on it as an option.

Progressive covers up to $1000 towards aftermarket addons, so atleast if the stuff was damaged beyond hope you would get something out of it. You must have the receipts tho. If you are not at fault and the other insurance is paying you may have a bit more leverage. Even if they don't reimburse you for the parts specifically, they usually want to settle with you to avoid future law suites from "injuries". You can make up ground there.

^exactly.

When Clare bit the dust I made up ground on her... actually more that I paid for her to cover ALL the costs (taxes included) on getting Audry, plus the loss of 1 after market product. Everything else I worked out with my insurance company where they parked Clare in my driveway for 3 days so I could swap all that survived.... free parking for them... I get to keep my modes
