Quick question on SRT 4 swap

Post by brybry » Tue Apr 24, 2012 11:40 pm

ok!! so this something i was recently asking myself a lot..
I see and look that a lot of people here in the forum make an SRT4 swap on there neons. My questions is, do they get the same performance as if it were an actual SRT4? I assume most people just do a swap and leave everything else how it is.. So my real question is, ""get urself an SRT4 and get the whole package or just do a swap and get only the engine goods??""

I'm sure it depends on whether or not they do a complete swap. Motor, trans, suspension, etc.

I'm sure if they go just motor & trans, it'll still handle like a regular Neon.

So, in other words, if you want your Neon to perform like an Srt-4, do it the right way...or...buy an SRT-4

neon, neon r/t and srt-4 are all different. each has there benefits

base neon. slow but great on fuel and its a great commuter car. ( no one steals neons best part )

Neon R/t = better engine stronger but you have to use high octane suspention stiffer, trans one of the best out there for touring ( love driving mine in the mountains better then the srt-4 don't ask why ) fast and rare in socal :-)

srt-4= sob is fast but fuel mileage sucks ( 100.00 a week for me lol but don't shit ) but over happy with it drive it everywhere cons transmission sometimes feels like a truck lol maintenance is a bitch ( eww got a leak gotta fix that asap )

well thats my personal take

Suspension isn't that major of a difference. IMO, if you're swapping motors and trans, then you've already AT LEAST lowered the car or can afford to do it right, AKA better than a stock SRT. Motor and trans is the main difference, as interiors, panels, and suspension is all 100% swappable (and cheaper and easier than the drivetrain).

only thing iv done to the suspension is lowering spring and thatch it.
so only doing a 2.4L swap is enough? im good to go?

 Having owned all 3 types, that is an accurate description ... SRT-4 is exciting to own & drive occasionally ... however I consider mine to be useless as a "daily driver"

Did the swap and my car is faster than a stock srt4. Its def lighter. But the srt brakes are def way better then the rt's or the 2.0s. The insurance is way cheaper if you swap. Id rather do the swap its more fun. But thats just me.........

-Colonel yeah i believe the srt-4 is fun to drive as well but a little bad on the fuel milage.

-H3LL_RaYzA how much did u pay for the 2.4L srt engine and the t-850 trani? plus the labor? a lot of people have told to do a swap and to fuck the insure that way is a good one :D

I bought a crashed orange blast srt4, and a sliver neon. $1500 a piece. So $3000 for the two cars. I do all my labor myself so I did not shell a dollar for labor. Then i had to rebuild the silver neon. So say about $4000. And the motor i got had only 26,000 miles on it. You just gotta be patient.

It's definately cheaper to buy a neon without the motor and turn it into an SRT then buying an SRT. Plus its a lot more fun!

 Of course you could buy a SRT-4 ... change the front & rear bumper covers, hood, wing, remove the side skirts ... then tell your friends that you did an engine swap.
