Changed my interior color. Easy breezy beautiful, plasti dip

Post by Ramroid » Mon Sep 09, 2013 12:25 am

Ok. So I was swapping out the door and rear deck speakers earlier, when I looked over and saw a can of black plasti dip. Thought to myself "well it works on damn near anything else, why not?" So I ripped off my a/b/c pillars and went to work. Cleaned them up, sprayed 3 coats of black plasti dip, and shoved them back on. HOLY CRAP. Besides looking almost oem(dark slate vs actual black) its easy to apply and doesn't rub off like that vinyl paint crap.

On a related note, taped off the interior of the car and dyed my headliner as well. All black guts for 15$? I'll take it.

Knocked off the dirt with my hand. That's it. Didn't wash them with soap or water, just a rag and lefty. It sticks to anything and everything. Plasti dip is the duct tape of the paint world.

Just two or three coats and you're all set. Sticks to the plastic like its nothing. I changed my headliner and all the trim as well. The ONLY things that aren't are my black my ac bezel and shift boot thing. I'll take more pictures in a few. I'm getting ready to cover my b pillars on the outside with carbon fiber sheeting. So wish me luck.

The trim looks shinier than it actually is. The sun is bright and what not. I like the way it turned out. Also, I mayyyyy have put a mirror on upside down. I was tired, and I'll fix that eventually. Lol

That did come out very nicely. So did you use plastidip for all the plastic parts mounted to the headliner (handle, visor insert, sunroof cover handle, sunroof surround, etc.) or is that the same stuff you used for dying the headliner itself?

The "oh shit" bars are plasti dipped. The sun roof trim is the same dye as the head liner. The visors are dyed the se as the head liner. Picked up three cans of vinyl and carpet dye from advance. Figured why not. Wasn't too pricey.

That's a close up of the finished product to show how it still has the grain of the material showing.

It looks pretty good, but I've never seen such solutions before :) And I'm thinking about changing the color of my interior. I look at various options, choose among the colors of this palette. This palette is simply gorgeous, I think that the interior will also be cool :)
