Anyone have trouble taping off the door panels before painting. Seems there is sometihing on the plastic and the tape wont stick. Tried cleaning with all kinds of stuff but nothing seems to work. Anyone have any ideas?

What do you want to paint? I painted the bottom of the door (where there's a pocket), the speaker grill, and the window crank. I went nuts with newspapers and covered everything else, except those two areas. The crank I just painted because it's easily removed.

The panel is off. I meant taping off for two sperate colors. I was having trouble getting tape to stick to the panel. Tried cleaning with soap and water and a few other things. The only thing that worked was the orange citrus shop degreaser. After I used that the tape stuck just fine.

I had problems when I 2 toned my first set of door panels, and it was a bad mess I think i ended up giving up

i tried this and in the end i ended up buyin a whole new set of panels..dont do it!

in the long run you will look back and realize that this is totally NOT worth doing yourself. Either do it professionally, or don't do it at all.

I have a friend that did this to his Cavy. And to this day he liked the outcome but it took a lot of time to do. But he will advise not to do any thing that moves...windows crank and door handle....as the paint will crack and peel over time due to resistance of pressure of the movement.

clean with rubbing alcohol ONLY. soap and water will leave residue...only better thing is Surface Prep(i get it from Sherwin williams)

Yeah I used a surface prep I got from work. Then spent quite awhile sanding just to make sure, then primed, painted then cleared. Turned out really well for a do it yourselfer.
