SRT/4 Cluster in an '00 SE

two questions:
1. Why does the CEL come on if you don't run an SRT/4 cluster with an SRT/4 engine swap?
2. Will an SRT/4 cluster work on a 2G SOHC? What will happen if I put the cluster in before the engine swap? More CEL's?

I put mine in a 2001 Se. It plugs right in place of the old one. I didnt get any cel codes. The only thing you will get, which I got was the parking brake light and and security light stayed lit. Just take out the 2 bulbs behind the cluster. Everything else works fine. I even tested the speedo with another car driving down the street, speed was right on. If your car didnt come with a tach, now it has one. The mileage is stored in the cluster and the pcm. So whatever the mileage was on the car you got your cluster, that mileage will read on your cel screen. So if that cluster is the cluster from the srt motor your gonna swap in then i would wait till you swapped your motor so your mileage would be right on.

it won't cause any problems till you take it to get service work done and they superduper overfill the brake fluid reservoir like they did on mine, even though the work order clearly reads "don't touch the brake fluid, the light is on because the pinout is different than the stock cluster." damn retarded dealership.
now, on that same note, you'll never know if you actually are low on fluid or have a problem that the light comes on for.

the work i was having done was warranty work, CV boot before Carlysle, they decided to be nice and top off the fluids and do an oil change...

What about neons without a tach? Mine has no tach. Would the SRT-4 cluster still work? I haven't seen anyone make any comments or suggestions on this. Also, can the dealership reflash the mileage for a cluster replacement to match the mileage on the car?

if you don't have a tach, you will now. a working one. i JUST put an srt one in my '00 es. NO cel codes or lights stay on. just reads different miles. and it tells me when my cruise is on, but not set like my stock one did. and the MPH and RPMS are dead on.
