The PT one should swap in easily. I think someone has done it.

What are you looking for in a shifter?

find another model of Chrysler in a similar or newer year then 2000.. You can find nicer shifter knobs from stratus', pt cruiser's, and theres another i'm forgetting. You could also buy an aftermarket atx shift knob.. but personally, i think its kinda a waste of time since you just throw it into D and go.

Also make sure it is a 4 speed, not a 3 speed. It may not make a difference since the 4 speeds pattern is: P-R-N-D-3-1 and the 3 speed pattern is P-R-N-D-2-1.

So do some checking in that regards before you get a 3 speed shifter, if you go that way.

he's saying to be sure its from a 4-spd, so that when you get ready to install it, it actually functions properly on your car.. a new shifter that looks cool but doesnt work, really won't get ya far.

Yea I did that swap... Had to trim down the base a lil to make it fit perfectly...
(excuss the bubblying paint and dirt... very old pic)

It confussed the shit outta people... The pt atx shifter looks like the mtx shifter so people were like "I thought your car was an automatic".

To me it looks real good though... Better than stock and any aftermarket out there...

Hey, OP, there's an SXT in the yard near me - I can grab the carbon fiber bezel (part that is around your shift rod w/PRND31 on it) from it, if you want that. Shouldn't be more that a few bux.
Is yours a 3 spd or 4spd?

Hey Zero - isn't the shifter wrong installed? The screw has to be on the other side (turn it 180°) right?

In Europe: 25 Euro for the shifter ball at the chrysler dealer (incl. shipment from USA).
Ask for PT Cruiser.
(Search a Cruiser with this shifter, ask for the FIN - and then let the dealer look into the computer.)

either one will work, since they're both 6 positions. The labeling will be wrong that's all. My '94 shadow actually had the 3 speed shifter with the A604. The salesman priced it as a 3 speed car, and you could tell on the test drive that it was a 4 speed. I got them down even more on the price because the ATX "wasn't acting right". Gotta make up ground somehow. I figured if they couldn't take the time to do a VIN check, they could afford to lose some $ on the sale. I had a buddy at another dealership run the VIN and got all the options/goodies the car was equipped with, and sure enough the 4 speed was one of them.
Unfortunately I only had that cr for 18 months before getting rear ended by a guy headed for the bar. The guy was going 50 in a 35 and never braked before hitting me. Should have gotten charged for "intent to be driving while intoxicated!" /rant

Not sure... You can always cut a piece out of the shaft and play around with it... I liked it high like that cuz I always have my arm resting on the console lid..

Not sure.. It could be.. I never really noticed or cared if it was or not...
