well after 1 1/2 hour of laying down in the trunk of a 02 neon filled with kitty litter, a jug, of bleach, a bread maker machine, and after cutting my finger on some of the metal on the inside of the trunk, i got myself a trunk liud carpet in damn near perfect condition minus the fasteners ( they were like 2 bucks at autozone). if you are wondering y i was laying down in teh kitty litter, te trunk was closed, and the trunk release button was removed ( didnt know they were so desirable, looked in 4 neons and all had them missing)

Most neons dont come with them. It was an option. Whats the point of this thread again?

why didn't you just take off the latch or use the key to open it... it takes like 5 seconds to install with the trunk open

The carpet wasn't an option. It was standard on '00 and '01 Neons (and all BUX models) but deleted in '02 on through '05. The purpose of the thread? A lot of 2GN'ers (myself included) enjoy "upgrading" (actually installing what DCX shouldn't have decontented in the first place) Neons with things like this.

I too have a trunk lid carpet installed that I bought from this forum, but what I'm confused about.. is why you had to lay inside the trunk when it was closed?... Whatever bro, you got it to work lol.

haha also not sure why you had to lie in the trunk to do it. I did mine standing up. outside the car
what are you saying most neons didn't have? a carpet or a remote trunk release? Because I'm pretty sure the release was pretty much standard . Although my sister's '01 plymouth neon doesn't have one.

I don't think it was standard on '01's. Maybe on higher trim levels, but not on my ES.
I think R/T's all had them. For future reference, some pliers on the flat rod that sticks through the latch, from the key cylinder, would have popped the latch open.

I got one open in a junk yard with a flathead screwdriver. I just stuck it in the lock, turned it as much as I could and pulled the lock out. Then I could push the lever with my finger and open the trunk. It was on a first gen though, they might be diffrent on the second gens. I'm not sure.

Naw, they work the same.
And my '00 ES came with a trunk release button, and trunk lid carpet.

Neither of my 01's have the carpet; i want it though. I would like to tear out all the bracing, to save weight, then put in the carpet for a stealthy weight reduction.
