5 Point Harness in SRT-4?

Post by mopar4life » Thu Apr 02, 2009 6:56 pm

We updated the 5 point harness in the Cuda yesterday and Ive got the old 5 point belts. Is there anyway to mount the 5 point in my SRT without a harness bar? Would there even be a way to make it into a 3 point and make it work with my car? Itd be somethin different I suppose. Otherwise into the box o parts for my next project.

If they are the kind of belts we have in our race car, no you will need a harness bar.

Anything else is going to be unsafe.

It's true. If you mount them without a harness bar and merely mount them to the rear seats somehow, either at the c pillars or the child safety seat clamps, you could risk breaking your neck/back in a crash.

You can mount four points in SRTs safely, but as for a 5-point you'll need to cut the seat open to mount the anti-submarine belt to mount the way it's supposed to.

It depends on the style of belt. I'm pretty sure I know what style he has, since we both have race cars.

The style he has, if mounted in a street car without a roll cage or roll bar or harness bar, is UNSAFE.

DO NOT DO IT. You will severely injure your self in a wreck

Ahhh okay, the non-race 5-points aren't really all that safe in a street car anyhow, since you can't mount the anti-sub belt where it should be mounted. Just stick with a traditional four point or three point on a harness bar, or the Schroth's which are approved to mount in the D and E locations.

Doesn't the SFI cert on the belts expire after 3 years?

Probably would be pointless to keep them for a race project.

Yeah but George Rays at Paragould and the track in Newport AR dont tech the cars that race so they'd be fine. Only Memphis Motorsports Park techs cars. All the other tracks we race dont even bother.

Bah, gotta take a lil chance lol. Ill get a pic of the strip at Paragould. Its a literal drag "strip". Piece of pavement that was poured in the 60s and barely has room for 2 cars lol!
