Dynamat Tar Removal

Another quick question: What's the best/easiest way to remove dynamat from the inside of a trunk lid? I got most of the Aluminum foil off, but the black tar is still clinging on. What method and cleaner work the best for this shit?

Thanks in advance.

That's funny, I actually just bought this one from 03 sxt with Dynamat on it. I'm not going to install subs, so I figured I'd just peel off the Dynamat, but this shit is so much harder to remove than to install. If I were to buy another lid that happened to have Dynamat, I would just leave it on. This PITA isn't worth the few pounds I'm saving.

So... are there no good dynamat or tar solvents?

well i would suggest that u either cover it with something or get a new trunk, i have installed dynomat, and it is easy to work with, but if u have to try to remove it is a pain, and that is not when it has been baked on the car for who knows how long.

Just put a trunk carpet over it.

Wow, that has to be a mess. If mineral spirits or penetrating oil doesn't faze it, I would get some cheap cloth to stick to it and then do the trunk lid carpet, like mentioned. I have thought about how one would go about removing that stuff, but that's as much as I wanted to hurt my brain.

Considering it, . . . . . was never an option.

Yea, I already have the carpet and everything. I just wanted to save the weight if I didn't need it.

Looking back... yea... :banghead: next time I'll leave it on.
