Seat Covers

Post by Maddog » Mon Jul 13, 2009 5:18 pm

I need some for the front 2 buckets. Anyone have any experiences with the various companies out there? I need some that once in place, will STAY in place.
Any recommendations?

The only ones i get are pretty cheap from autozone. unless you get something that is specifically made for the neon seats i think they will always move around a bit. Most seat covers are just universal buckets. i just recently got some off of ebay and they have all the clips that you strap to the seat itself. 3 weeks and they haven't moved a bit.

I have Roadwire custom covers, they can be made front row, rear row or both rows as a deluxe kit. They can get pricey depending upon options, but can be really affordable too if you don't want alot on them. These directly replace the stock fabric with hog rings and all.

I absolutely love the fit, quality and everything about the company. I'm glad I chose them over Katzkins, who have terrible customer relations IMO.

Mine are black leather, black alcantara and pink piping which I outsourced and shipped to them.

That's what Katzkins are, along with Roadwire. They are built just like the factory covers, only to your specification. However...Roadwires are built better, Katzkin goes OVER your rear seat cover, while Roadwire replaces everything and uses hog rings and zippers rather than cheap ass velcro and slip-ons. No I didn't know this difference before I purchased but knowing it after made me that much happier I went with Roadwire over Katzkins.

They do require professional installation, or a hell of a lot of patience and hog ring pliers :D. I did them myself and now realize why they charge so much.

Although I get PM's weekly between different sites asking me where I bought my seats from lol. OEM Viper seats ftw :D

Chuck,
I used cheap car covers that I picked up at Pep Boys.....

But I Zip-Tied the HELL out of them during installation ( under the seat ) to make sure they stay in place..... "minor re-engineering required".

So far, they are holding up pretty good. I can show you how I did it sometime.

Same here. Buy the seat covers you want and then go to JoAnne fabrics or a similar place. buy a few feet of elastic cord and some grommets. Then put the grommets in around the base of the seat and criss-cross the elastic cord back and forth. works like a charm and only takes about 10 mins per seat. I will snap some shots of mine later today and post em.

I got a set of wetsuit fabric bucket seat covers at Autozone for $19.99 a piece and they have worked great so far. I have gotten a lot of compliments on them at shows and people can't believe they were cheap autozone covers.

I can't remember the brand, but it was one of those like 3A racing. Before that I bought some off Ebay that were $40 for the whole set but I switched because I changed my interior theme from red and black to blue and black and I liked the feel of the wetsuit style fabric better.

Sparkplug those look freaking awesome BTW!!

Thanks for all the responses, folks!

CrystalMarie, your interior is awesome! Those covers actually make you want to sit in the seats, not just admire them.

I may just get replacement seats, and be done with it. I'll have to wait and see how the finances pan out.

They upped the comfort level tenfold too. It really was a major difference due to all the new padding.

they took like a month and a half to get here and when they got there, no clips or anything and they never fit right

finally had enough things to do to warrant removing the passenger seat today so here are the pics i promised so long ago. sorry about the blur on some.

this is what the underside looks like. the elastic cord was run above the spring and all moving parts so it would not bind up on anything.

here are some shots showing the grommets. i used a total of 9 per seat - 2 on each side, 3 on the front, 2 on the back.

and the finished product, which looks remarkably good in a silver neon with the dark interior for a $20 set of seat covers. the black is sort of like a really tough stretchy nylon material and the 2 gray parts are neoprene. even with the elastic cord it still needs a minor adjustment every now and then but i have yet to see the set of seat covers that does not. people going in and out of the car move it ever so slightly but it's nothing to worry about.

one thing i forgot to mention, you need some sort of spare material like an old t-shirt. put a piece of it on the back side of the seat cover where each grommet will go. the seat cover material is usually very thing and can rip easily once punctured so the extra piece behind the grommet will help to stop that from happening.
