I read your how to, and there is a way to make the red odometer visble during the day. If you sand the black tint off of the area and place cellophane over the odo display it is perfectly visble even with the sun glaring on it.

I found that the cellophane wasn't the best material to use so I used the vamp film. In addition the odo area should be masked off and retinted to give it a much cleaner look.
I thought about doing the signals. It wouldn't take any more effort, I just don't mind them being green. If they stayed on for any length of time then I would have done them too.

As far as the ODO goes, no. You're pretty much screwed there. Either make it red/pink and only see it at night, or just live with it being green :(

What do you mean when you say the ODO area should be masked and painted?

Those aren't removable. Mask them off very carefully.
Masking, although, not so carefully. I removed the overlay first. Makes it way easier and comes out ten times cleaner than masking it.

When you sand off some of the odo film, the area is going to look all uneven some clear some still tinted. so you just mask off the rectangular area and ligtly tint it. You'll have a much cleaner look and people can't even tell that the red film is back there until the odo lights up.

I did this for my odo along with the vamp red film I had laying around and got an awesome result, thats red at night and still clearly visable during the day.

I don't sand down the area with the ODO. Someone sent me a cluster that had that tint sanded down and it didn't look very good. I may try and play with that to see what I get

Oops I forgot about that..... After the odo arear gets tinted, rmove the tape and put down some spray can clear, upol 1 works perfect.

This pic was taken before I retinted the odo area.

I may try this. I have that already sanded down face so I'll give it a go. It would be nice to see my trip/ODO during the day. Thanks!

Nothing at the moment. I've got all this lighting stuff that I'm working on at the moment. However, my New Year's resolution was to make serious headway on bringing them back this year. It's gonna take a lot of work and a moderate amount of money (which is tight right now with the wife in grad school). I'll keep you guys posted for sure.

Crystal was my first customer actually! Also, the only person that has the kitty cat style. After that, everyone wanted theirs to look pissed off

Hells yeah! My first one, the very first one, was the same style. Let me dig up a pic...

and here's the 2nd one I ever made. (Notice how it's less "gay" in order to appeal to the excessively homophobic SRT crowd  )

I'm my own guinea pig  You should see my studio space at home. It's full of projects. Some are full of win, some are full of fail.

Got it  I'll get back to you later today. I'm actually not feeling too well, and am trying to get some of my more pressing freelance work wrapped up today that I couldn't over the weekend (I'm posting while a 15mb attachment is uploading).
heydockyle wrote:Once you get back into the shifties I want a custom color one.
I may not be doing the custom stuff when they come back. Part of why I stopped was because it's simply too much work to make them by hand :( I ended up having to take a couple of personal days about a year ago to catch up with orders that had piled up. I want them to work more like Dunnies or other similar toys when they come back (i.e. different "series" with unique designs and colors for each line, with a new series to arrive every few months).

These are what Dunnies are just in case you're not familiar. They're little bunny-like figures with different graphics applied (often by famous designers).
