Well, I wasn't going to/didn't attempt it either, mainly because I had the CC clockspring in hand. I only had to change the airbag connectors, because the CC one had a damaged connector, and the horn connector was different. Fortunately that didn't involve the ribbon connection. ('00 to '01)

The question basically being would simple switches wired into the CC connection work?

There are only two wires one goes to the PCM, the other to ground. I'm not 100% sure how the contacts in the buttons work through the two wires, but I don't see why you couldn't either splice into them, or remove them from the connector at the column.

OK, looking at the second diagram, it appears that the switches have resistors in series attached to them. What the value of those are, and if they are all the same, or each has it's own value, IDK.

If it is possible to get to the connectors on mine with out pulling the wheel, I will try to get a ohm reading off of them.
I just assumed they made a simple contact to ground w/e, until I just noticed the drawing had resistors.





If anyone knows the value(s) of the CC button resistors before the contacts....


And those Clubs are useless. Just hacksaw through the wheel in less than a minute, that thing is off. It is well documented. IIRC on the TV program, the guy cut through the wheel in 11 seconds, or something insanely fast. Considering there is very little actual metal in the rim, it isn't that surprising.

do they still make the lock that goes from the floor to the wheel but locks the brake pedal in the up position as well.

i think a good alarm is the best answer though.

It wouldn't work any better than the lock shown earlier simply because they can still hacksaw through the steering wheel.

Locking the brake pedal in the up position wouldn't be a good idea either. If they couldn't stop, they would prolly successfully sue you for having the brakes inoperable causing them harm. You would be without a car, and everything you earned would be theirs.

I used to use the club on my spirit because they're super easy to break into and easy to hotwire. unlike most people I put the corner into the A pillar so the steering wheel could not be moved. ALL of my friends made fun of me to no end, but I never had my car stolen

also, on a neon we have Sentry key immobilizer so unless they have your key or are extremely savvy they aren't driving away with your car. The club will deter them from finding this out to begin with and will save you the cost of a new window glass.

krackstar had a sentry key and they still ran off with his ride.

Im guessing they towed it as that car was certianly more valuable than most other neons with all the sound equipment, tv's, srt motor, ect... Most people wouldnt do that for a base neon with not much extra worth

OK, let me make this more clear.. they won't DRIVE the car away. Sure it can still be towed. An expensive fucking alarm can't stop that either. They didn't drive his car off though.
