hvac leds question

Post by red2k2rt » Tue Mar 19, 2013 9:51 am

for those that did the led swap in the hvac area, did you find the stock bulb holders were too tall and put the leds toe close to the hvac bezel? i'm thinking thats why mine looks like its only lighting up half of the bezel properly. i got the smd leds from vleds and they are bright as hell but the holders they came with were the wrong type so i reused the stock ones. the only issue is the ones the leds came with were shorter than the stock ones. so i'm thinking that the leds are now too close to the bezel and now allowing the full spread of the led to light up the bezel. because it looks kind of like you took a flashlight and held the light close to a wall.

minimal hot spots is better than having part of the display barely lit up. i'll probably tinker with it later tonight. next step is a led ribbon or putting additional leds in the housing.

i did the cool white because it keeps the red part of the display red without having to use any special bulbs. just a pain that the holders mine came with were the wrong ones and probably the corret height while the stock ones were better for the incandescent bulbs. not to mention i snapped the leg off of one of the new leds by accident. thankfully i had 4 but now i get to test my crappy soldering skills on repairing that one. the ones i got were the smds from v-leds.
