Rattling

Post by Ramroid » Mon Jan 20, 2014 11:38 pm

Lets say i upgraded all my speakers in the car to a really nice JL audio setup. Lets say with the sub off, the 6x9's still rock the car like a small sub. Lets say that everything rattles like its a empty paint can in an earthquake. Any tips/tricks to keep everything from frakin' rattling?

Yeah, ive used dynamat in my bmw. However, i don't feel like paying the outrageous price for it again. Anyone know of anything cheaper?

You can spray expanding foam into the deck lid, but be careful with that too. Too much at once can push the sheet metal out. There are other options than Dyno mat also.

There are also spray on applications, tho probably not cheap.

You can also RTV anything that may be prone to rattling. or put some material between close surfaces to keep them from contacting each other.

This may be odd, but since im a plasti-dip fiend, i was thinking several thick coats of plasti-dip as a surface barrier, to prevent contact. I'll test it out when its warm and see if it works.

Depending on how much area you plan on plasti-dipping, it isn't exactly cheap either. I thought about it, but didn't mention it, as it does add up.

Well, i have 2 cases of black plasti-dip just sitting around collecting dust. I figure 5 or 6 good layers would be sufficient. I'll try it when its warm
