Sweet! Parts have been starting to trickle in for my 1st gen. I'm heading down to Jakes for some fab work this weekend! With what I have coming in I should have the car done by then. If not she'll at least be running normally aspirated.

Okay, enlighten dumb-dumb here- what is that? Oh, I'm going to have to look for/buy safety goggles as well as I imagine that there will be fine metallic dust from sanding all of that underbody area.chipdogg wrote:I'll probably have some por-15 left that'll work great for that.

Pretty much what most people use to paint their frames and underbodies. My step-dad did the whole frame and underbody of the Chevelle he was restoring with it.

Put aluminum foil between the lid and the can so you can get it open again. I even made a small ladle to scoop the stuff out, not spilling any, and the darn stuff still wanted to glue the lid on.
Even sealing the lid, once there is enough air space in there, you only have a month or so to use it up. Mine was starting to crust over real well after a while.
Once it sets, I think you could hold the car together with it.
Gramps, you might want to save for a replacement, because it is probably rusting on the inside as well.
You don't need an SRT crossmember. There is only a couple minor differences that can easily be done to make a much lower priced crossmember work. '03 or clean southern JY one will do.

So is that stuff better than Rustoleum? I've never heard of it before.
What would a new part like this cost? I really don't want to start putting used parts on my car.
EDIT to correct spelling error.
OMG- WHAT? A crossmember? Is this the same as the K-frame? Both my mechanic and stdlystdmufn have checked this area out in person and they agreed that it is just surface rust but you think otherwise? Not being a jerk- I seriously want to know.occasional demons wrote:Gramps, you might want to save for a replacement, because it is probably rusting on the inside as well.

1 ). Yes - Way better than Rustoleum.
2 ). I wouldn't worry about replacing the crossmember /'K-frame' just yet.
The 2003-2005 Neons are supposed to be 'improved' in this area, especially compared to the 2000-2002 Neons.
I have seen one on a 2000 Neon, in a local junkyard, that appeared to be pretty well ROTTED.
Amazingly, my Lousy cell phone camera actually worked quite well :

I wish this lady I'm supposed to be buying this R/T from would hurry up and decide on another car and hand over the keys!! lol
I'm trying to stay patient. I told her I'm hoping to have it by the beginning of April, she said "Oh, you'll have it by then!"
so, we'll see. It'll be nice to drive there WITH cruise control. If not, I'll be in the blue beater! lol

Nah, I already texted her about the meet. It would be cool for us to both go, but we're expecting a baby a week or so before the meet (Due date March 25). I'm sure she wouldn't want to go, and we'll see about me

I talk to Scott everyday just about. His Neon was hit by some lady in a Commander. Right afterwards, his mom backed into it. Supposed to be covered by his insurance since the lady in the Commander admitted fault.
He said he plans on being at the meet. We'll probably Caravan.
