Well the good part is you and David are okay. Hopefully none of our other neon family members were in harm's way.

I don't think the 29th will work for me, but I probably wasn't going to make it anyways...

Bill and Thomas, good to know that you both are okay. I heard "Beavercreek" mentioned several times on the TV coverage at the Pilot (I convinced the Arby's cashiers to change from "Star Wars" to a local channel with radar- ended up with Channel 10 from Columbus but I would have preferred a station from Dayton). Employees at the truck stop had no clue that the weather was so dangerous until I pointed it out. We eventually had around 50 people waiting out the storm there. I didn't get to clock out in Indy until around 3:45 a.m. What a night.

Meh, the closest thing to me was a train wreck in Wellington OH yesterday morning.

It is near where we usually go into the Lorain County fair grounds at the end of summer though. :/

We had two tornadoes go through Beavercreek following each other maybe 20 minutes apart following a similar path. One of those was now classified as an EF3. There is substantial damage less than a quarter mile from me. So we were really lucky when we hunkered down in the basement. Hearing all the locations very close by on TV when they talked about the path of the tornado as it went through was a bit too close for comfort. Fortunately, there was no loss of lives at least down here.

So did a meetup ever happen. Or not yet. It's already june and we haven't had a meet up yet. I'm free on weekends now as we stopped working weekends. I would probably come if someone set something up. But has to be weeks ahead of time so we can notify everyone else etc.

I too will not be able to make it.

I have an employee that's requested the day off, and I'm short staffed too.

Everyone come to Carlisle? lol

I'm really sorry Thomas. I do want to see everyone but my car had been in the shop and I wasn't sure if it would be ready in time, plus my promising the day to be a good son and help my mother.

Did the tornado damage the area where we meet? If so, has everything been cleaned up? Maybe we can plan a fall meet.

I stopped by the meeting spot for a little just to see if anyone else would show. But then I left after I saw all your posts. We can try some other time again, hopefully something will work out at some point.

I was rather upset, though. Not because nobody could make it but because I went through a different car wash due to the fact that the one I usually use got completely destroyed by one of the tornadoes. Something in the car wash pushed my front fender in just enough to get the door stuck. And when I opened it to vacuum the car it pushed the fender in even further. It looks pretty bad right now. I am sure it can be fixed and pulled out. But the guy at the car wash was not at all that helpful. Just told me they have to look at their cameras first to make sure the car was not damaged before. Like I would not have noticed that I could not open the driver side door and had to climb in through the passenger side before driving to the car wash. So I cannot really drive the car until it is fixed. They are supposed to call me tomorrow, we'll see.

The tornado damage in our meeting spot and the restaurants we went to in the past is fairly limited. The Fox & Hound has its awnings completely torn apart now. The restaurants lost power but that is of course all restored by now. The car wash and one of the grocery stores I go to have substantial damage and there are a lot of houses and apartments very close by that have very significant damage. At our house, we were very fortunate to only see minor damage on the siding. People are slowly getting around to clean things up. But it probably will be a little while until everything is back to normal.

Again, I'm sorry that I couldn't make it Saturday. I had high hopes but then life kind of got in the way. As much as I would like to get to more meets, it seems like the car just sits in the garage more often as time goes by. And I did have it in the shop this past week so I would have been embarrassed for everyone to see how dirty it is. I have been trying to get the alignment problem that Amit pointed out fixed so my car has been aligned three times since April, the latest (and last) attempt seems to have corrected the problem to where the wheel being outside of the fender isn't as noticeable.

Sorry to read about what happened at the car wash. The employee you spoke with obviously doesn't know about what care you take of your vehicle (probably "just a Neon" to him). I'll keep my fingers crossed that they will do what they should and cover the cost of fixing the damage.

Well good thing I didn't go. If I had driven the Impreza, I would have been really screwed due to Gate's inferior crap. Their POS timing bet broke yesterday on the way to work. Driving to Dayton and back, It would have exceeded the miles traveled just on the way there.

Now I have probably $1500 in repairs doing it myself. Bent at least a valve in every cylinder, as it has no compression in any cylinder. Thankfully I have AAA, so the flatbed fee was no charge to me. I still would have been in the 200 mile window, but it would have been a much longer day.

viewtopic.php?f=18&t=71039

I am seriously considering pulling the Gates belt out of the neon, and going with something else. At this point I think a no name Ebay belt would be more trustworthy.

Engine is out, hope to get it on the stand and pull it apart over the weekend.

At least it is a thousand times easier to remove than a conventional front wheel drive. Literally less than an hour and a half, taking it easy.

Now working on it in the engine bay, is another matter.

The main PITA would be changing the spark plugs, or adjusting the valves/pulling heads, but in all, everything else isn't that bad. The exhaust header and timing belt is actually a lot easier than the neon, as far as working room. The exhaust studs point straight down, three per side. No feeling around for them.

But it really makes no sense (if you have the equipment) pulling the heads in the car, as easy as this comes out.

IDK about the DOHC versions, as mine is SOHC, so it is a bit simpler in design, but also had less model years available for parts. This engine was only used from ~2008 to 2011.

Yeah, and the ones I dealt with were late smog equipped CARB models and EARLY fuel injection. I swear they had more individual undiagramed vacuum hoses than ANY american brand of same vintage! NO niceties of OBD trouble code scanning to give a clue...straight out manual diagnostic skills required. AND only book(?) information, if you could get one...NO internet back then!

Hey Thom, sucks that Noone went. Let's set a date for September ahead of time. That way we can all make it.

I've had some weird issues with my neon that I'm still trying to figure out. This weekend swapping out the mfs or turn signal switch better yet and hope my issues fix.

Call me crazy, but what would you guys think about doing a monthly meetup?

We don't get to see each other all that often, and I'd like to change that.

I'm sorry I wasn't able to make it out. I'm also sorry for all the stupid car related shit everyone's going through!

I don't know why it seems like, as I've gotten older, it gets harder to set aside a day to go somewhere. I get one day off a week (Saturday) and I will confess that I usually spend the day trying to catch up on sleep. Not a valid excuse but I think that I need to stop promising every time, oh yes, I'll make a meet ... only to back out at the last minute.

We can barely get people to show up for a meet 1 time a year. A monthly meet would just be 1 person all the time.

The Mopar Nationals are coming up in 2 weeks. A few fellow neon peoplr will be there that weekend.
